Hi, You can connect your D70 to a laptop with a USB cable. The camera will write to the camera card and send a photo to your computer. You will have to control settings on you camera.
I was an event photographer for about 15 years, and this worked for me in digital.

You can't control the camera from the laptop this way, but you can see the photo in up size.

Practice makes perfect, more or less.

Most fashion photographers use photoshop or portrait pro.
The broad light in the first photo is from a single large source in front and slightly above the model. Look at the eyes and read the reflections of the lights in the eyes.

I would suggest buying a Vivitar 285HV Flash unit. That was all I used for several years doing weddings. This was on a Nikon D70
It works well and cost around $90.00 . Hope this is some help.
