Powerful story, indeed. “Thank you” is pretty inadequate, but from the heart……. Thank You.

Thanks everyone!

We were there for four days and the winds/weather were favorable for the balloons to go up each of them. Great atmosphere and great fun. Hope we get to return!

The annual Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta is going on right now. It is an absolutely incredible event with continual photo ops galore. We can't be there this year, but this is one of my favorites from a visit in 2017 that ticked a big item on my bucket list.

Shot with Canon 7DII, EF24-105L

So this definition is no longer valid?:

Only been ‘valid’ for the last year or so, as that definition was adopted solely to make the use of the word “v*****e” apply to the C***d jabs. In actuality, there is NO v*****e for C***d.

Current ‘stable’ is a 1D mk iii (APS-H), 7D Mk ii (APS-C) and the full frame R6. The R6 is the “go to” and I like it a lot. Each camera has its own distinct personality, strong points and things to keep in mind when using. I like the extra reach of the 7Dii; the super fast eye-focus and IBIS of the R6, and the battery life of he 1Diii. All three produce great and comparable images from whichever lens is in use. The 7Dii and R6 are both 20 megapixel cameras, and while the old 1Diii has less, the image sizes I use does not make the difference that big of a deal.

The R6 is the lightest and has the most features because it is the latest. I like it an what it does a lot! The only adjustment I’m finding difficult is making myself keep the lens cap on between shooting (Canon’s advice to keep from accidentally pointing the camera and it’s mirrorless exposed sensor at the sun for any extended period whilst carrying the camera). With the other cameras the lens cap stays off for the duration once it is attached to a Black Rapid sling and on my hip. Without question though, I’d buy the R6 again….. for my purposes the R5 is overkill and I could/can not justify the additional costs.

This is a shot from a friend's deck in Cape May NJ. It is the only place on the east coast where the sun sets over open ocean.

Image caught at an opportune moment with Canon SX120.

Jerry, the reality is that PRICES do not go up. What happens is that the VALUE of the dollar goes down and it takes more of them to buy the same product.

I started in the mechanical trade in 1969 at $2.50 per hour and journeymen were making $5.00 per hour. When I retired in 2019 our journeyman pipefitters in the same trade were getting paid $83.00 per hour (including their benefits).

Spot on. The currency in your pocket looks no different than it did 50 years ago, and more. It simply does less, and will continue to do so as long as government continues to print more money to cover its deficit spending.

The piper is going to play……. the only question is when.

We are planning to go to Alaska early July. Rental cars are scarce as hens teeth! We have a hold on a 24' RV till the end of this week and trying to make that decision asap. We are used to pulling a large rig (24' trailer + 3/4 ton pickup), so I don't think driving it will be an issue. We will fly into Anchorage and visit southern coastal areas - Seward, Homer, etc. Anyone with experience driving a small RV in that area? Pros and cons of doing this?

We took 4 months to do British Columbia, the Yukon and Alaska in a 24’ Class B+ In 2018. You have a GREAT adventure ahead! We traveled with an ‘informal’ group (never more than 4 coaches together) that allowed folks to do their own thing and meet up at the next campsite in the evening.

GPS is reliable. Cell service is not. Logging trucks travel at pretty high speeds… oncoming loggers accounted for a significant number of broken/cracked windshields, so adequate insurance for damaged windshields is pretty important. It is a good idea if you get into Canada (if they open things up), convert a little bit of cash to Canadian currency. Electrical power cannot be taken for granted and if you find yourself in an area where power is out… credit card readers will be non-functional. Lastly, make sure you have towing coverage that will cover you for up to 200 miles at least. Hopefully you won’t need it,but if you do… help is typically a good distance away.

Take tons of photos. The view is awesome in all directions.

Wish we could go back.

16 B-24 bombers took off from the carrier U.S.S. Hornet on April 18, 1942 and struck Tokyo. This raid was planned and led by Lt. Colonel James (Jimmy) Doolittle. The bombing raid was not so much a strategic success, but it was a huge psychological and morale boost for the U.S. and her allies. The Doolittle Raid was followed up in June, 1942 by the Battle of Midway, an overwhelming victory for the U.S. Navy and a turning point in the war against Japan.

Nice photo of the superbly restored Mitchell bomber, "Panchito". The aircraft is based at the Delaware Coastal Airport in Georgetown, Delaware and there is an extensive history of it as well as the original "Panchito" on the website of the Delaware Aviation Museum. It is a story unto itself.

The restored Mitchell was "ready for it's closeup" at Oskosh in 2017, where it led the re-enactment of the Tokyo raid with the supporting cast of 20+ other B-25s. At that time, there was one surviving member of the mission, and that was Jimmy Doolittle's co-pilot, Lt. Col. Richard "Dick" Cole, and he was there at Oshkosh to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the raid. Col. Cole passed at age 103 in 2019.

One caveat, since you're still on Mojave (10.14.x), support for 32-bit applications is gone. You can get the free Go64 app which will identify any apps you may have that won't run under Catalina and later (Big Sur).

This is a pretty important consideration when looking at Catalina or Big Sur, as much of the software you have previously purchased will no longer run or be usable...... and just about ALL of the replacement 64 bit software is ONLY available on a ‘subscription’ basis. Depending on how much software is involved, those ongoing and never ending subscription costs can become significant. If the software you have is working for you, you might want to stick with Mojave until you need something that forces you to upgrade your OS.
