Now that this camera has been about for some time, I would be interested on hearing from people that own one just how satisfied they are with it. I use my current camera (An old Canon 60D) for all manner of things....Birds, landscape, you name it and its been pretty good but the time has come I think for an upgrade. I am aware that many comment on its 20MP resolution, especially in comparison with its "brother" the 45MP R5, but surely given all of its new features and capabilities that shouldn't be a handicap for most of us...or is it?

Have you had any issues with it, does it do everything you need well or, is it perhaps better suited to some tasks over others, but it does seem to come up well on the many reviews that I have read.

Guess the main question is...as a general purpose camera how good have you found it? Good points, bad points.
(Obviously the R5 is a step up but there is a significant cost that I cannot really justify).

Be interested to hear. Thank you..Paul

Is an EOS 5DIV a better choice? This camera has been heavily discounted around the holidays in the US the past few years, maybe more this year. They're probably pretty plentiful in the used market.

Had a D6. Gave it to my son because I just could not get in sync with it. Was a little big for my hands, and somehow I could not get my brain to function with the menu.
Get the R6, its a bit smaller. Feels more like my old film camera ( Ftb ) and the menu seems easier for me.
Havnt used it too much, but like it so far. Have a 50 1.8 and the 24- 240. Kept the 100-400 from the Do and have adapters. Thinking about getting the new 16mm.
Defiantely need a lot more practice.

I have thought about a DLSR but having just retired I would like to get a good camera to in effect see me out. All the talk and reviews etc seem to really praise these new Canon mirrorless cameras particularly with respect to their autofocus capability and image resolution. In the large marketplace that no doubt exists in the US I am sure that there would be very good deals to be had with something like a 5DIV but here in New Zealand we generally have to pay top dollar for such things...unfortunately. I would prefer to stay with Canon due to having some of their lenses, one being the 100-400 Mk 2 which is real good. But I really appreciate the feedback. I've done quite a bit of research on the R6 and it seems a pretty good all round sort of a beast.

You should read the reviews of actual users, not the talking heads here.

Not for nothing but, A lot of people get great photos with a Nikon D500. I only mention it because it is 20 mp. The R6 should be fine if that is what is in your budget & computer will probably like the smaller files better than the 45 mp. A lot of great reviews on you tube, most show sample photos.

Let me bring up another issue: The EOS R6 is 20 megapixels on an uncropped sensor. The pixel modest increase from your EOS 60D will be more than offset by the loss of the 1.6x crop factor of the 60D. Hence, my suggestion of the larger full-frame EOS 5DIV sensor as well as discount pricing ideas. You might want to look again at the EOS R5 or wait and see what happens over the next few years as Canon continues to build out their mirrorless line.

I think the magor thing you should think about is how do I feel about going from a crop sensor to a full frame. If birding can you get close enough without the crop factor. Do you have the right glass . You want a good all around camera get an 80D. (crop sensor) . Primarily again you need to investigate full vs crop sensors. Which format is the best for your needs.

An EOS 5DIV, Paul? To own a mirrorless, is to achieve Nirvana :) :) !!

I do not understand the need to upgrade to the mirror less body, especially since you state the the budget doesn’t really allow it. If the current camera does all it is asked to do then why? Tums works very well on GAS. Good luck and keep on shooting.

I was told by a Canon on line rep that the R6 did have the 1.6x crop ability, a top reason I'm considering one and I use it a lot on my RP. Is that not true?

When you crop a 20MP image by the 1.6x crop factor, you're left with a 7.7MP image ... (see page 855 for the EOS R6 manual) That's an awful lot of new money to spend on an EOS R6 to deliver the pixel resolution of a DSLR from around 2003 ... That resulting 7.7MP is also the result of mounting an EF-S lens to the EOS R6, so using crop-body lenses on this body also is a significant step in the wrong direction.

I have the R6, it is a great camera, autofocus is superb (and I had the Sony A9 to compare, both were excellent) and the tracking is phenomenal.
You will not be disappointed.

I've had the R6 now for about 8 months or so and I'm very happy with it. I upgraded from the R to get the IBIS as I'm not as steady as I used to be. I have not noticed any difference in the the photos. I print quite a lot up to 13x19 with the Canon Prograf300 and the prints are excellent even when I crop depending on the composition.

First, I am an extreme hobbyist. I shoot my kids high school football and basketball games. (Nights and in the gym). I have done IndyCar events, and previously did a fair amount of wildlife. I previously have had the 5d Mk4, 1Dx Mk2, etc. I traded both of my DSLRs to move all mirrorless through a couple of stages. I held onto the 1Dx the longest prior to getting the R6. So I have been shooting with both throughout the past almost year. I personally tend to lean toward the R6 the most but reserve the R5 for just portrait work of family, events, seniors, etc. so I have flexibility to go back and forth. For wildlife, to me it comes down to what glass you have. If you can live without the crop, the R6 is more than capable as it gives you that bump in lower light images. I still fiddle a bit with some of the differences in color contrast with the Rs but HCS not regrets for move I made to mirrorless. While I usually use my R6 for most things, I do like leaning on the pixels of the R5 when I need to. The question I would most certainly have is how long would you plan on keeping your next purchase? I feel very comfortable having made the move to the mirrorless side (and I know I am in a bit of a luxurious situation of being able to acquire both). That being said, if I could pick only one of the two, it would be the R6 without any regrets. If I need more reach, I like to push on the glass if I can versus depending on any crop methods either sensor or software. The other question when it comes to resolution is what do you do with the final product? Don’t need many pixels to generate a nice 8x10 print. Just my ramblings.
