What is the best software to use to back up my computer? Some have recommended Backblaze. What does this community think? Thanks for your recommendations.

I use to use backup program that was included with Microsoft windows, I also used Acronis and liked it until they got stupid. I found that the later versions slowed down my programs. Plenty of threads around on that. I tried a few others. The biggest problem with all of them is the size of the backup. I now have Active backup for business that runs on a Synology server. This has simplified my life quite a bit. I just backup everything. The cost of that is very cheap. The de-duplication they use works great. It has also saved me a few times when a needed a specific file version. It is basically set it up and forget it. A complete backup every day is what I use. Generally it is performed at night. But in the few cases where the machine was turned off it starts up as soon as I log on and doesn't seem to cause a big load. Generally it is done in about 10 minutes. I tried backups to the cloud but my files are just to massive and connection too slow for that to work. However I have it on my TODO list to try Backblaze to backup my Synology server.

My first reply was going to be fluorescent lights are bad at providing a faithful color spectrum. The CRI is in the toilet and ... However if you study the picture we have consistent blues in part of the sequence but the robes and emblem on the wall have blue replaced with black in the second picture. So I don't think this problem has anything to do with the lights or the camera.

I have a 4TB SSD in my desktop, and it's 55% full. I'm thinking about adding another SSD to store folders that I seldom use. I want to keep the files, but I seldom access them. There's not much of a price difference between a 4TB and a 2TB, so I'd get the 4TB. Unlike an HDD, it wouldn't be spinning all the time and generating heat, which is why I haven't added more HDDs to a computer. I don't have room on the motherboard for another M.1, but I do have a card that could hold three M.1 drives. If I use the card, I'll use one of the two remaining empty card slots. I'm leaning toward the SSD. I like the idea of an active SSD and one used for storage.

Any suggestions?

I think the key is your term "seldom access them". Just remember if you have them always attached to the computer there is a higher chance of a bad error or worse. So you will have to back them up with everything else all the time. I also don't think you have to have SSDs for seldom accessed files.

One of the keys for keeping everything is a good indexing system. Once a drive gets a little dust on it you may not remember what was on it. Even worse you may not know where to find something. Been there and I have not solved that well. For pictures, Lightroom is likely best way to index but I am not going to go back and index everything. Maybe someday I will use the face recognition part of Lightroom.

The cost of more storage likely goes up exponentially. Why is that? Drives are cheap. But the real cost is maintaining it so you can use it when you need it.

Double check the settings related to the printer. May have changed with firmware upgrade.

I know that I will be getting good advice from my UHH colleagues. I was tasked by my daughter with to recommend a large format printer to buy. She wants a printer with 17" minimum width. She's leaning towards a Canon but I've heard good things from Epson printers.
Although her photo taking abilities, eye and creativity, have long surpassed my own, she still depends on dad for equipment advice and in this case I am delegating this on you. Her camera is a Fuji GFX50R.
Looking forward to your input

I had the Epson 4900 which is a 17" large format. I now have an Canon PRO 4100 which is a 44" large format printer. So the quality is about the same. However there are differences. If you calibrate the printer paper the Canon is better by far. They will both clog the head if you don't print enough. So I make sure I print something at least every 3 days. The Canon has user replaceable heads but still that is about $800. As I understand it the Epson becomes a boat anchor because it cost too much to replace it.

If she is doing this as a hobby then I would be careful going above 17" because it is a major commitment in time, cost, and space. Based on what I know now I would buy another Canon.

I have the R5 and set the diopter for with my glasses on. Before with the Mark IV I had some problems. I will never go back to DSLR. One of the benefits is the much brighter image. That helps with cataracts. The auto focus is so good I just don't worry about if it is right. However, the manual focus aids work great if you want it that way. The better image stabilization takes care of my shaky hand. I love the R5 simply because it will give me more years of taking pictures. I only use lenses with IS now.

Yes, soft printing sounds correct. I don't have any handy references but there should be some on the internet. Xrite should have info for calibration of the display. Epson or canon should have ICC profiles that are downloadable for their printers and some info on how to use.

You turn off printer color management in the print driver. It is not in Photoshop.

Normally you make final adjustments in Photoshop, while you are viewing the image on a calibrated monitor and are using a printer and paper ICC profile. For most people the easiest way to do that is to buy paper made by the printer manufacturer and download their profile.

When ready to print, you make sure that the printer profile you have been using in Photoshop is in the photoshop print dialog.

If you don't do all these steps, then it will be hard to get consistent results.

I use the Kindle PC app all the time. The only downside for me is I don't always want to sit at my desk reading. But it is a great app and works well. It is also free. Never need to convert before downloading and using.

Lots of things don't like too much heat.

If you have not backed that drive up I would use a clone program. It should be much faster. Once it is complete you can delete stuff you don't need.

I've no interest in getting a MAC, no matter how many people rave about them.
I'll stick with Windows.

I also have the NEC monitors. I used the NEC MDSVSensor for quite awhile with Specraview. That is an eye-one display 2. I also had the X-Rite i1Pro2 I used with the studio suite. I switched to using the Pro2 for display calibration. I no longer use the NEC sensor. If you are going to buy a new unit you want to get the Pro 3. You do not need the studio suite unless you want to calibrate non NEC monitors, printers, or scanners.

I wanted to upgrade to the pro 3 but I just couldn't justify it.

My first line of backup defense is a Synology NAS running Active Backup for Business. I wish I had known about this program sooner. It does not waste space on duplicates. It is very fast and doesn't load down the computer it is backing up. I just set it to backup everything at night. Most of the time it takes a few minutes. I used it to restore files quite a bit while I was debugging my system and it worked great.
