There's a lesson in here. Running unsupported software is a risk. Risk that justifies probably beginning to worry about what you need to change to next.

You are quite right. However, my wife uses Picasa regularly, and, well, something about...cold, dead hands...

Not so fast. I am STILL using 35mm, 120 and DSLR's as well as just one mirrorless camera. I get great enjoyment from using every one of them and more. If mirrorless has taken over your life then congratulations. But many of us are still quite happy using those that have made us happy for decades now.

I am learning LRCC. I can't get past the catalog. For the life of me I can't understand how the catalog works, how to download photos to the proper place on MacBook Pro (i.e. photos, pictures, external hard drive, etc) I know it is too much to ask someone on this site to explain it to me but but if anyone has the name of a course that explains it well I would be very appreciative. Thanks so much.

I have the same problem with LR4. So much so that I don't use it. Must be the way my brain is wired.

We are traveling through AZ and NM in June en route back to Texas from CA and are considering visiting either the Petrified Forrest or Vermilion Cliffs. Cannot do both due to time constraints. Any thoughts on which to visit?

Yeah, go see the Very Large Array. Giant radio telescope array in western NM. Featured in the movie Contact.

I have done a dozen or so books with Blurb. I wouldn't use any other publisher. Go to their website and download their easy design tool. Lots of choice on size, paper, book type, etc.

And we have also done dozens of books with Blurb. Can't recommend them highly enough. You might want to wait until they have a sale, though. Have your book done and ready to order, then go for it.

I have a few old and even older cameras.
There are times a few times a week, especially in cold weather that I sit and "Dry Fire" them, play with the lens on them.
Does anyone enjoy just hearing the operation of these older mechanical cameras with no purpose outside of making them function?

Yes. It's a guilty pleasure.

As a Portrait Photographer of many years, I never made a "Photo Book" for a client. However, I will be doing a X-Mas event for a client next month and he indicated he may want a photo book for his business.

My Question is: Have any of you produced one of these for a client? And if so, what company or printer do you recommend! And...do you know the URL for them.

I thank you all in advance for your reply's.

Many Thanks,
Boone.

Don't know about cost, but my go-to company for photo books is Blurb. Their product is top quality.

I'm not influenced by cost as much as size. I took a Nikon D810 and some lenses to England three times. I took a Canon pocket sized camera as well. (Currently use a GX7 II). I didn't take the Nikon to London. I could afford to replace it, but theft did cross my mind, and what concerned me was that the camera is so conspicuous. I also couldn't see jamming into a subway/underground car like a sardine with that thing against my body pushing against someone else. It would have happened. The Nikon worked out well when driving around in rural areas and visiting various heritage sites. The Canon was always in my pocket as well, but I generally used one or the other depending on circumstances.

Ditto on the G7X. Great camera. And light and small. I'm 80 and use a cane so size and weight are paramount.

Do you still own your first real/serious camera? (Add a pic!)
Do you still use it?

Early on I couldn't afford a big name brand so started off with this Ricoh. No regrets. The Ricoh KR-10M served it's purpose and was a great little camera. I haven't used it for decades but I'm going to give it a run sometime soon.
The KR-10M had quite good specification for the time. The kit lens pictured was also a reasonable performer.

(Photo below taken on my phone. Phones are good for stuff like this!)

Same here. It was cheap enough. All we ever used.

This is just the kind of thing Lightroom was designed to do. Many different ways to approach this all within one program. It’s also fun to pull together a mess and watch things fall into place.

I've owned just about every Canon digital camera ever made, but just never found any real pleasure in using them. It's not that they weren't great cameras. It was with each one I found less satisfaction in photography.
It was no longer me creating the image, but the camera doing all the work.
I've gone back to film. The not having instant gratification of knowing if I got the shot and having to wait till I processed the film and made a print has brought back the fun I had when I first started in photography sixty years ago with a Kodak Brown and Kodak Tri-chem packs processed in an old coal bin and printed in a print frame has returned, but now I have a dark room and enlarger that I've brought out of storage.
Photography is fun again. I guess it's a sign of senility - but who cares.

Good Morning Hoggers....

My wife and I are in Upstate Vermont (Burlington) right now and it seems we a "slightly" early the changing of the color for the leaves... We would dearly love to get come "calender worthy" shots of Autumn Scenery...

In the last several days, we have traveled the area of Stowe, coming from Maine, and we are seeing only about 10% to maybe 20% (???) in the coloring...

My question is... We have the ability to go anywhere in Vermont or New York and then south.....

... Can anyone give us "actual current reports" for locations of "full-color change happening right now ???"

Thanks so much in advance for your input and your help

Cheers

My thoughts -
I don't use catalogers like in LR or PS. More trouble than they are worth, to me.
I use File Explorer and my photo directory structure as my "catalog".
I either double-click on an image in Explorer, having a default editor assigned to that extension, or right-mouse click and "Open With" to select an editor.
I normally don't open an editor then go looking for something to edit. I peruse the images in Explorer.

Floats my boat.....

Exactly! I can't get my head around LR.
