1. At the time, meaning when I made the decision, that wasn’t obvious. By your lights I probably did drive off the road to photographic success then.

2. You fail to point out that an EF-S lens won’t mount on an EF camera while a DX lens will mount on a F camera and work normally.

3. Wasn’t including non-Canon OEM adapters.

4. Every AF-S and AF-P Nikkor also works fine with the FTZ adapter. Nikon continued to make older lens types to serve its established market - specifically its older film cameras. Yes, I can still get new lenses for my F. That they won’t work with my Z fully is besides the point. And I don’t have to haul around an AF motor I can’t use with the F.

5. True but you need multiple non-Canon adapters.

Hardly degrading anyone. The leader is irrelevant to me. Nikon makes good equipment with a long history of not abandoning its user base. I went Nikon a long time ago and accumulated a large amount of glass some of it highly specialized (and not available in Canon mount). I kept using the F because it worked the way I want.

When I started looking at digital in 2006 I hesitated a long time because Canon was highly attractive. Eventually my wife decided that for once she could get me something she knew I’d like for my birthday. So she went to the camera store and bought me a D200 and gave it to me. So I wound up sticking with Nikon. I don’t regret it; equally so had I gone with Canon I don’t think I would have regretted it either. But I really do like the fact that all the D glass I have works great on the F. That fact kept me shooting film until this year.

I’m not a fanboy of any company. I neither like nor dislike either Nikon or Canon. They’re just tools - like this made by Milwaukee or Bosch - that enable me to create my art.

Now we just need that both, Canon and Nikon, allow 3rd party fully auto lens. It is BS to prevent us, the ones with that not so great budget, buying cheaper lens.

Go for Bethel, you wont be disappointed. I went during Autumn but the region is really beautiful and it must be great during summer too.

Completely agree that it depends on the type of processing you do. If you do lots of stacking, panoramas, batching processing, etc, then the extra performance may be worth the $. I’m actually using an older EVGA 1060 6GB card running Capture One and Topaz AI products, and I almost never wait on the computer. At worst, maybe a couple of seconds for some serious Topaz processing, but if I were building a new machine, I’d likely buy something similar to a 3060.

PassMark on the 3060 is 17,011 vs 20,294 on the 3060 TI, so maybe closer to 20%, (which is about the % difference in price), but I agree either will be adequate for photo work. I was actually just pointing out that we are not quite down list prices yet - maybe if bitcoin continues to tank, the pressure on graphics cards due to cryptocurrency mining will decrease

Sure if you are into gaming where some parameters like ray tracing, shading, and some others are very used. It also depends on the resolution you are playing. I can't remember where I did find an interesting test from a guy who run a batch of a pre-defined workflow of editing to a directory with 100 pictures, 16Mpixels each and in the end, the difference was about 5.2 percent. This was during the pandemic and I can't find it anymore online.

But as I said in the first reply the best GPU you can get is the best your money can buy since as software evolves it will find a way to max the resources available. Having a better GPU will allow you to hold an upgrade for more time (kind of the same that happens with a notebook).

Sorry, I missed that you were looking for a TI board. BTW performance gain is very small with the TI (around 6 to 8%) mostly as per the hardware sites. If you will not game with it you may keep some cash and go for the normal board.

Newegg is a very reputable place to buy. Before Amazon existed it was one of the "places to go" (former Egghead)
They have deals as you are looking for prices from 399 to 469. It is a must to go for the deals which they rotate every week.

Just wanted to thank you for your response. I'm hoping that the demand for video cards per this economy will slow sales and bring pricing to more reasonable level. I'll sit tight for a few months, while I become more proficient with LR.
Be Happy!

They are quite close as they were before the pandemic. With a little effort you can get a good deal already as we should be around 5 or 10% of the normal prices pending on the supplier. As inflation rises and things are getting more complicated I would not wait anymore as prices may go up again in the near future. Happy editing !

If you don't need to go over 1440P you can use adapters for your monitor connection. 4K is a little more tricky since it will depend on your HDMI version and cable. Display Port (DP) is the best way to go for 4K but a carefully chosen HDMI is pretty capable depending on your motherboard.

And for basic and eventual editing even an RTX1660 will do but as I said you will be vulnerable to future software needs very shortly... the best card is the best you can pay for... same as a laptop. The rest of your configuration is fine.

Just build new PC (Ryzen 5 5600X, 1TB m.2 SSD, 32GB DDR4) and need to upgrade old graphics card. Presently using 1080 monitor, but will upgrade to 1440 later.

Graphics card pricing is nutty right now, so I'm hopeful that this will delivery very good performance. I'd appreciate hearing about anyone's firsthand experience on this graphics card for Photoshop.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Depending on what you will do and how long you intend to do it the rule of thumb is the same as when you buy a laptop... the best card is the best one you can buy with your budget. Software has been evolving very fast and each day new functionality that draws more resources are available and if you chose to go cheap you will be needing to change for a new GPU and having to sell the old one for pennies (unless a new shortage happens in which case the price of the new card will also be inflated).

If you plan to edit a lot for a long time go for a RTX3080. There are models with 10Gb and 12Gb. For just editing pictures and movies you will be ok with a 10Gb version but if you can afford a 12Gb will give you more layway until a new one is needed. Just keep an eye on your power supply as the RTX 3080 will require around a 850W PS. If you cant afford the 3080, try the 3070 price and then the 3060. You won't be wrong with any of them but will be longer before you need a new one going with the most powerful ones.

By the way prices are, now, pretty close to what they were before the shortage. Even B&H have some good offers.

Cheers

Exactly. I just couldn't believe that such a cheap lens and a small sensor could render me images as the one it did. Ok, it is not a full blow Nikor fixed lens but it does a heck of a job for a zoom, and with the 2xTC it does not not lose much at all.

The only thing missing from the veteran SB400 is the high speed sync... otherwise an excellent flash when you don't need high output. Mine is 10 years old and still working great.

I hope you love yours as much as I love mine. Very portable, and the lenses are great, compact, and very sharp. Read Ken Rockwell’s review of this kit!

Yes they are. I have a Z7 and a Z50 kit. I only travel with the Z50 with 3 batteries, the kit lens, a 2x teleconverter and a 10y/o+ SB400. All small, light and the kit lenses quality, for the price, are amazing. You will not be wrong with the camera and lenses unless you need focus stacking (not available on the Z50) but this is not probably needed in a trip.

My Z7 is now used only with my Sigma 150-600 or for inside home work. My equipment to go is the Z50 with the kit lenses and, if I need portraits, an 85mm.

Go for it, you won't be disappointed.

I am going on a Trip to Italy and Greece for 10 days. It will be my first visit to these counties and we are on tours everyday. I don't want to carry my heavy D750 or My D500 with me. Nikon Is Running a deal on The Z 50 refurbished with 2 lenses. A 16-50 3.5-6.3 and a 50-250 4.5-6.3 for $959.00. Does anyone have any experience with this camera and Lenses. Will it do justice to the to the subject I will be shooting. How is it in low light for some of the churches. I know you can’t shoot in the Vatican. Yes, I do and you will be ok with the equipment. It is my "go travel" equipment and it is very good. Small, light and the kit lens albeit not as good as some top lens they are very good and very close, and for the price unbeatable.

Hope you are going to the Dolomites area in the North and Venice (this last it is a must you are there when the day begins as after 9AM it is fully taken by tourists)... Italy is an unbelievable place but nothing less than 15 days and you will see only a very small part of it. Lake Braies in the North and the mountain passes are a must as well as some of the lifts around. Other great areas are Cinque Terre/Pisa, Florence, Bologna, and pretty much all of the country. I'm Brazilian, naturalized American and fell in love with Italy. I'm still planning at least 3 or 4 more trips there to Almafi Coast, Sicilia and other places I didn't go yet.

Be prepared with at least a couple of spare batteries and a lot of storage as you will get tired of pressing the shutter button. Enjoy it !

Cheers

If you are looking for a budget equipment/lens the Nikon 50-250mm that comes with the Z50 kit is unbeatable. I'm really impressed for the price. It is not a "top" lens but quite close and the price is unbelievable.
