I am going on a Trip to Italy and Greece for 10 days. It will be my first visit to these counties and we are on tours everyday. I don't want to carry my heavy D750 or My D500 with me. Nikon Is Running a deal on The Z 50 refurbished with 2 lenses. A 16-50 3.5-6.3 and a 50-250 4.5-6.3 for $959.00. Does anyone have any experience with this camera and Lenses. Will it do justice to the to the subject I will be shooting. How is it in low light for some of the churches. I know you can’t shoot in the Vatican. Am I better served using a Sony RX 10 IV i can get from a friend.

Hi Donie95, I own the Z50 and both lenses. I purchased the kit directly from Nikon a couple of months ago. They were running a sale at the time and were offering the camera and both lenses for the same price as refurbished.
The price you mentioned is a great price but I believe today is the last day for that particular refurb sale.

I'm very happy with the camera so far. Very easy to use, both lenses are very sharp. Decent low light performance but keep in mind both lenses are not fast lenses. The Z50 and the 16-50 make for a very small package.

Good luck with your decision and enjoy that amazing trip!

best,
Paul

My wife uses a Z50 and I use a Z fc which has the same sensor. These are our first Nikons. Previously we shot Canon DSLRs. We love these cameras more than I can express. The Z50 is very small, light, with excellent build quality.

I don't have the 50 -250, but the 16-50 it surprisingly sharp with good contrast. I also have the Nikkor Z DX 18-140mm. It is small and lightweight and surprisingly sharp from edge to edge over the focal range. Even though both of the lenses you are considering are slow, the Z50 sensor has excellent high ISO/low light capability. While I generally shoot raw, the Z50 straight out of the camera jpegs are better than I would have expected.

If you get one make sure you get an extra battery or two since the camera is only rated for around 300 shots per charge, and that is dependent on how often you review your images. Of course, give yourself some time to learn how to get the best from this camera before you go.

Although I had no problem getting used to the electronic viewfinder, I understand that some people struggle with it more than others. It is a different experience than the optical viewfinders of your current cameras. I quickly acclimated to it and much prefer it to the optical viewfinder of my previous camera, the Canon 7D Mark II.

While this camera is missing several nice to have features that I had in my Canon, it has a significant number of other features which are more important to me and result in better images. Of course, it lacks a number of features present in the higher end Z bodies, but it is a fine compact little camera which will give you excellent images.

Can't speak to the 50-250, but the 16-50 is an excellent lens - very sharp corner to corner.

I have had the z50 with both of those lenses. I am finding I use it more than my d750. Both lenses are sharp and the camera was an easy transition for me since I was used to Nikon system.

Don't let the f6.3 aperture slow you down. It is almost 5.6, which, if you just speed up the ISO 2 stops, will make it seem like an almost-f2.8, and, take a look at the files, can you tell which one was at 2-stops faster ISO? Usually not.
Get the Z50 and enjoy, Greece is great!

I just took this exact combination on a trip to NYC. The kit lenses are both very good but not fast. However, the VR in the lenses is very good so you can get away with lower shutter speeds, and Z cameras in general handle high ISO situations well. Plus the camera and two lenses are very small and light.

There's a six-ounce difference between the weight of those two bodies. Are you willing to pay $1,000 to save six ounces? Or, do you secretly yearn for a Z camera?

Yes, but people do tend to use them with lenses attached.

I just took 150 shots of my 7 month old Great-Grandson in about 90 minutes with the 50-250 kit on my Z50 and almost all were excellent SOOC. I shot indoors without flash at iso 3200 and 5000. I love the EVF! I got the adapter for my D7100's 18-140mm zoom, but now prefer the Z50-250. I'm just an amateur Great- Grannie, but I love it!
Again...thanks, Yssirk123!

I suspect you're correct. Using the 18-140mm lens on either camera, the Z lens is 4 ounces lighter.

By the way, I shoot manual mode. It's a snap (oops) with the EVF!
