Here are some important aspects of getting a good image of the moon.
1. For all intents and purpose the moon is at infinity.
2. The moon in all phases is in full sunlight the same as sunlight here on earth.
3. The moon is apparently moving at about 0.25degrees a minute or 0.004 degrees per second.
4. The moon is less than 0.5 degrees in diameter. This ia a small target. At elephoto lens of 400mm plus is the minimum focal length.

To get a decent image:Manual Mode
1. Setting your camera to infinity your depth of field will be accurate enough to have the moon in focus.
2. Set the IOS to 100 for the best noise free exposure.
3. Set f stop to F 8
4. Set shutter to 1/400. That should strop and moon motion and a lot of your own.
Sit in a nice chair withe arms and comfortably shoot away, You can also change the settings plus or minus one stop. I have used this method with a 1000mm f5.6 telescope. (on a tripod.)
Long underwear helps. Have some fun.

What I like about this question s that is about COC. The Circle of Confusion is often about two issues. Often it is about the group that is discussing it, Technically it is about the limits of resolution that the lens and receptor can distinguish.
My Leica lens has designations on the lens that indicates depth of focus. That is the limits of the Circle of Confusion for specific lens and f stops.

Many lens have indicators on the lens that will give you the depth of field. Also there are other limits on the COC depending the color mix of the subject, diffraction and lens quality plus the photographers COC.

It's the end result that counts. Experiment.

He only shot raw in the summer. It was too cold in the winter to go around shooting in the raw.

The moon is in full daylight. ISO 100, F 116, 1/100. or Manual focus Infinity. Good for any phase, half, quarter and new or old.

f11, 1/200, f6 1/400 if you are old and wobbly.

You can try it in the daytime although not much detail.

I did some consulting with a company that provided massive posters on canvas that were made to goe on large buildings. Some were up to 100 feet by 80 feet. The pixel size varied from 3/4" to 1/4" Not much to look ar on the ground but looked great on the buildings.

The printers were 20' wide. The prints were sown together by machine. Pixel size matters.

Every picture tells a story? Not really. Every picture give us a platform to make up our own story.
All we have is our stories, some are similar others are different. They are visual, oral sensory and more. We are our stories.

That's my story.

I have a humble request of my fellow photographers. If any one gets a photograph of the the apparent fusion of the two celestial bodies, I would like a copy.

My birthday is tomorrow. I was born on December 21 1930 at 6 pm. Some of my friends and family are getting a kick out of this acknowledgement by the Universe.

I live in Santa Maria CA, and the hills and the fog are not cooperating.

Very interesting! Photography is a flexible me medium so why not be creative with it. Every picture involves a story. The photo may stimulate a story or stories. Ultimately it is the viewer that makes up the story.

As a class assignment I was asked to present three pictures that told a story. My subjects were a pair of men's and lady's shoes. I placed them in varying positions. I got at leas forty different stories They were very creative. When asked what was the real story, I said I just photographed shoes.

Have fun, be creative and enjoy the comments.

The "Bayer" filter blocks the infra red component from registering. It will not be just a monochrome camera unless you use a red filter.
PS can give you a reasonably realistic simulation of a BW IR photo.

Share them! No point of having 6000 photographs if no one sees them. Your recipients have their options to their responses.
Don't worry about your ego. Everybody has one and they are usually odd.

Happy Holidays

I email my files to my local college graphics department. 13 x 19 prints, 0.57 per print, on a first class printer. Bigger than that they get expensive. No ink bother, no paper bother. No printer bother. Tp I've learned to adjust my color balance to get what I want.
