Comment about #4. The T3i may be considered an entry-level camera but it certainly rates highly. Some of my best shots (and I have a lot) were made with the T3i. I know others on the forum will agree. A good lens just makes it better.

I agree, that is why I bought a T3i as my first DSLR. I still use it for my general purpose walk around camera and am very happy with it and the Tamron lens I suggested. Suggested, not recommended since I do not have enough information about dlay's situation to make a recommendation.

My comments were meant to be taken as in whole and provide context, not dissected.
They were not meant to degrade the T3i.

I am thinking about getting a canon EF-S IS f/3.5-5.6 is standard zoom lens for my canon t3i for carry around use. I shoot scenes, people, wildlife, etc. Is this a good choice?

A couple of thoughts:
1-You don't mention the zoom range of the Canon Lens.
2-You mention wildlife in your description. Typically that requires a range of 400 to 600mm.
3-Scenes and People can be typically handled with a 50-70mm prime.
4-Everyone remember the OP is shooting with a T3i entry level DSLR.
5-We can presume the OP is shooting for their enjoyment and not selling their shots.

Tamron sells a very good 70-300mm lens "Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 SP Di VC USD XLD for Canon Digital SLR Cameras"
https://www.amazon.com/Tamron-70-300mm-4-0-5-6-Digital-Cameras/dp/B003YH9DZ4
Great reviews on Amazon from users, not labs and is priced affordably.
I use this on my T3i, 7D and 7DMark II and really like it.

Harsh? It's like putting a tack on someone's chair or some equally stupid act that usually injures (psychologically as well as physically).

Practical jokes serve no purpose except to laugh at someone else misfortune; sometimes a thoughtless way of getting back at someone.

Medic24 stated he was a bit jealous of his daughter's equipment. Who knows what was really on his simple mind?

Anytime someone hurts someone weaker or unable to defend themselves, that person is a jerk!

Seriously, lighten up.

Successful radar dodging aircraft works by the design of the plane; the 747 is not designed for that.

It was a joke. The Klingons came back from the future and gave us cloaking tech.

IMHO, most everyone here is describing technical qualities.
I believe a Great Picture is one declared so by the person it is intended for.
If you are shooting for yourself, you decide if it is a Great Picture.
If you are selling your photos, your customer decides if it is great or not. It is subjective.

[quote=whitewolfowner]And thirdly, the claim is that it is contained in a 747; do you really think a 747 can fly over head, near the little brats guarded area and not be spotted and shot at./quote]

The 747 had a cloaking device, easy peasy.

You make a good point about weight of extra batteries vs weight of the solar charging system. I already own the 7DII, so that's not an option. I'll leave the battery grip behind, but I'm taking a light tripod. I'm figuring 2 batteries: one in use and one to charge. I've taken enough trips to Quetico to know the importance of packing as light as possible. It may ultimately be easier to take 4 batteries and skip the solar charger. Also taking 2 lenses: 18-135, and 100-400 L II. Might have to do some triple portaging early in the trip. :-)

Will you be camping away from the camp ground? I saw in the internet a Q & A:
Question: How many vehicles can I have on my site?
Answer: The fee for one vehicle is included in your campsite permit - all other vehicles must purchase an "Additional Vehicle Permit" at the time of registration. The number of additional vehicles permitted on a campsite is limited by the park and vehicles may have to be parked in a separate designated "parking lot" located away from your campsite. Consult the ‘site description’ on the Reservations website to find out how many vehicles can be parked on-site.

If you will be returning to your site each night, the car recharge option is best.
Again, we don't know the logistics of your situation.
In general, solar chargers are slow and require long durations of bright sun to provide any real charge.
If indeed you are canoeing/hiking leaving extra batteries in the canoe may be an option.
How did you do it in the past?

The 28-300 is an OK lens, worth $500. It's not as good as the Nikon 28-300 but that wouldn't work on your camera anyway. Neither are as nice as the Canon 28-300 which is my walkabout lens for Canon bodies, but most folks are put off by its size, weight and cost.

The Canon 28 - 300 Lens is a bit too large and expensive for a general walk around lens IMHO.
In my opinion any lens that comes with a price tag of $1500 to $2,000.00 and a Tripod mount is not a walk around lens.

It's simple, any item for sale on Amazon that ask you to call before ordering is a scam. There are so many of them right now that I doubt that Amazon can keep up with them. Hopefully they will come up with some sort of algorithm that will automatically flag these adds in the near future.

High ticket items sold at a very low price and have items like this in the description "sNëw in zBox.BëfoRe Ördër TëxT#4O5-293-57O Nine" or "Just Launched (Seller Profile)". These are scams that deliver to another address, presumably a partner in the scam. Amazon will do nothing unless you complain, a lot.

Amazon is getting like Ebay was several years ago. You just need to use common sense. These people prey on your greed.

"I don't want to buy the gray market version however."
Why Not?? Very often even with a Third Party warranty it is significantly less, especially if you are looking to save $160.00 tax!
Don't buy the nonsense, they are the same lenses.

I love my T3i.
While I use my 7D and 7D MkII for sports and nature photography, I use the T3i for stationary shots.
IMHO, keep it if it suites your needs.
