A nice set of animal photos. Looks like the new gear works well for you. I tried switching to mirrorless, but find the smaller camera does not work well for me, sticking with Canon DSLRs. Have a nice Canon M5 unit + lenses for sale.

Hi Folks, I have just recently joined this site, find it very interesting and helpful. But, I have noticed there are the occasional comments that are somewhat snide or just rude. I think a bit more respect is needed here. There are no stupid questions, but there are some responses which just might fit that description. BTW I have been involved in photography since I was 14, was an army photolab tech way back before Vietnam, but my professional career was in the zoo field. Have had many zoo photos used in various related publications, and now as I am retired take photos for the local zoo (where I was the director for 17 years) and the nearby Sugar Grove Nature Center. I also teach nature photography there once or twice a year. But, must admit my learning curve for digital is steep!

I use the Canon 80D and the just got 7D Mark II with the Canon 70-300mm IS II and the Tamron 18-400, although I am beginning to think anything over 300 with the Tamron needs a monopod. Have on rare occasion hand held the Canon 100-400mm 4/5.6L, but needed a high SS to compensate. Really like the Canon 70-300mm IS II.

I just went the other way, added the 7D Mark II, and still have the 80D. I like the burst rate of the 7D, and that they both use the same battery. My favorite light weight walk around lens is the EF-S 55-250mm. I have had this lens for some time and find it to be a very sharp lens and versatile lens. I also use the Canon 70-300 when weight is not a factor and I need the longer lens. Recently purchased the Tamron 18-400, but am finding it does not produce sharp images at either end of the range. Considering returning it. Hope this helps.

I just received the Tamron 18-400, still testing it, but so far not sure it is any better than the Canon 70-300 II, which is my main lens.

Good luck with the RB67, I have used one in the past, plus the 645 and the twin lens Mamiya. Great cameras.

I have used several different brand lenses in the wide angle to telephoto range. Have not been very happy with any of them. But, that said, just got the Tamron 18-400. I find the longer range works well, but the 18-30mm range requires very careful focusing. But, I find my best walk around lenses are the Canon 55-250 and the 70-300 II. The 55-250 is an S lens. I also like the 18-135 Canon lens.

I was in the Army from 7-61-7-64, was also trained at FT. Monmouth, then spent 2.5 years in Furth, Germany working with aerial photography. Our lab, the Antique 7, was mounted on a 2-1/2. It was very simple and even boring photography. My guess is that the WWII lab was on a 3/4 ton truck. But, if the film was from a standard graphic it would be possible to be on a jeep. Actual aerial cameras we used had a much larger format 10x10 roll film. Would have been difficult to handle in a small lab. I would guess in WWII, lots of things were accomplished by less than standard means. I must also add that during my time in the army in Germany we used drones equipped with the 10x10 aerial cameras. Just wanted to point out the use of drones is not a new thing!

When everything is out of focus I would look at shutter speed and camera movement. What lens were you using?

Don't buy it. Stick with Canon TC's it is worth the money to do so. Depending on how long of lens you want to work with I would suggest getting a different lens. I am very pleased with the Canon 70-300, the newer lens. It has become my most used lens and is lighter than the Canon 100-400L, which I also use. I also use the 80D as well as the 77D. You might want to take a look at the Tamron 18-400mm, it is a new lens, so far the reviews have been positive. Waiting for mine to be delivered.

I have the newer version of the Canon 70-300 and find I am using it for most of my wildlife photos. Also use the 100-400, which is great but for me, must be on a tripod. The 70-300 is my go to lens for walking around.
