I've been in Kingston almost 14 years. I've passed Hurley Mountain Inn hundreds of time, but only had lunch there once. It's probably time to visit there again.

don't see image

Hmmm, I'm not able to attach it. I've tried several times, with TIFF, JPEG files. I've posted photos on UHH in the past, I don't know what the issue is.

Oh, well. Just imagine the BEST photo you've ever seen of a comet, thats what I got. :-)

I was able to get out to a nice area to catch the comet this past Saturday. There was more light pollution that I thought there would be, which was a bummer for trying to get good shots. This is a cropped image taken with my Nikon 28-300mm lens on my D750.

We are heading out this weekend to the Catskills to (hopefully) see the comet. Some clouds are forecasted, but we are going to keep our fingers crossed. Naturally, the camera is coming with us, so if I get any good shots, I'll share.

This is truly a great opportunity to witness something that may, in all liklihood, be forgotten by the time it comes around again. I'll let you know what people's reactions are in another 6800 years, since I'm immortal. Just don't tell anyone that. :-)

thank you very very much, no they are grown at the park.

Well, these photos are even more impressive with this knowledge! What is your lighting and/or editing technique?

There are many great photographers on YouTube. Some of the ones I follow: Mark Denny, Steve Perry, Nick Page, Adam Gibbs, Thomas Heaton, Gavin Hardcastle, Pierre Lambert, Karl Taylor, Nigel Danson. There are more but these are my favorites.

I would add James Popsys to this list. He is funny and his videos are really entertaining.

Those are some great photos of some really vibrant Dahlias! I assume you grow these yourself? I have a ton of lillies, need to get out and photograph them before they're gone...

Peak design slide. Very comfy strap. Very easy to adjust. When attached to side ring and tripod mount the camera can hang at hip height without bouncing around when walking. Easy to wear all day. I carry a Nikon d810 w/vertical grip pretty heavy setup. I used to try to lug a backpack with camera in it now I leave the backpack behind.

This. I couldnt agree more. The advantage to this strap over, say, Joby's version is that you can choose where you want the strap to anchor to the camera. You have 3 options: each side mount, but also the bottom. I use the non shutter button side and the bottom, and carry it with the strap over my left shoulder, camera hanging on my right side, or against my lower back. Its always at the ready when I need to shoot.

There was one in Central Park a couple of years ago. I kept trying to get there to snap some pics, but never made it.

The only Nikor in that focal range is a AF-S DX NIKKOR 18–300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR.

I had this lens for my D3200, and it essentially lived on that camera. I sold it though when I upgraded to the D750. I only have the Sigma 10-20mmD for that camera now.

I would absolutely recommend the 18-300mm. Its a great lens, and covers just about everything you'd need for "everyday" use.

Unfortunately, most external ports are going away. It allows laptop manufactureres to make them thinner/lighter. Your son is right though, a simple USB dongle will solve the problem. There are many out there, I'd suggest Amazon, and let the reviews tell you which ones are better.

Well, there is certainly no shortage of advice on this forum! :-)

It is overwhelming, definitely. The way I have always learned PP and LR is to find a photo that I want to "enhance" and then start small. For example, if you want to use YouTube, look for a specific topic on "how to..." and start there. That will open up more options as you learn, and you'll take a gradual approach. I tend to bookmark the videos I like, and will reference them regularly when using PP/LR.

A few years ago, I found a laminated card for how do to basics in PP. I don't know if its still as relevant today, but I've found that the basics are worth keeping handy, and then as you get more comfortable, you can dive deeper.

Great shots! I'm about 70 miles north of Manhattan, on the Hudson, and we had so many clouds, I never saw the moon. Just the eery glow from behind the clouds. It looked really cool as it first broke the horizon, but shortly after, we lost sight altogether.

Thank you for sharing!

I planted several of these in my garden about 3 years ago. They really grow quickly, and get bigger and bigger each year. I love these for the sheer photographic aspect of these plants. I have not had time to get out with my "gear" yet, so this was captured with the Lightroom app on my iphoneX while taking out the dog. Hopefully something to brighten your day.
