All that being said... This is the most accurate focusing camera I have ever seen. The touch screen pointer and 10x are super.

I was shooting this ship as it approached from about 1/2 mile with Canon 5dm4, 100-300 tele. When it turned broadside and started dropping sails It was too close for me to get in the frame. I tipped portrait style and shot a 6-frame pano. Had a couple glitches but got it all.

I've seen guys use fill flash at these things. Mid-day sun can make anything in shadow get pretty dark.

70-200 is probably the best bet. or the 200-500 and plan to only use about 300mm... These guys fly fast.
"Motocross", by the way. Plan to get dusty or more. Besides the action on the track, there's plenty of family interest opportunity in the pits.

My family all enjoyed shooting bottles in the strip mines with 22's. Brought up in an NRA family. My mom boasted that she got 28 squirrels from their back deck withought a miss. She was in her 60's when she did that. I shot groundhogs and deer with hunting rifle when I was living on a farm a few years ago. Now I only have a high power (for a pellet gun) pellet gun and mostly shoot squirrels in the back yard from my desk here in the office. All my kids have side arms.
