Having spent 31 years as a professional firefighter/paramedic I had fun checking those out. Thanks.
I had such a great time. Took over 100 pictures but had to narrow it down for the assignment. If you’d like to see more, send me a private message

Nice job. My favorite is the last one. "Job done. Back to the station to wait for the next call". And I wonder how long it will be...
Unfortunately, not long enough!
I took a photography class at a local college and our last portfolio had to have a theme. I decided that firefighters might be fun. I went to two of the houses in my city and thought I would share the photos. I used black and white because I liked it better than the color photos.
I’m taking a digital photography class at a local college. Our last portfolio had to be a theme. I went to two of the local fire stations and took behind the scenes photos of the firefighters. I had the best time. All the firefighters were so welcoming and so willing to be photographed in the behind the scenes action. It definitely is a project worth considering.
PS: just in case you might think I’m this cute young girl so that is why they were so accommodating. I’m almost 71 and cuteness (if I ever had it) is long gone.
Out walking in the woods and came across the beautiful fall colors and reflections.
Do the same instructions work with photoshop?
I know I should have changed the camera settings to achieve a better picture but I just love the facial expression.
I agree. It is very sad. If you want more detail, here is an article published by our local station.

I took a trip to Oakland Cemetery in Hampton, VA, yesterday looking for interesting pictures for my photography class. Oakland Cemetery was established in 1861. It was abandoned by the property owners so many graves are overgrown by weeds and grass. Many of our military are buried there but have been forgotten. These two pictures evoked a lot of emotion for me. The first one shows headstones which have been leaning against a tree because no one knows where, or even if, the bodies of these military men are buried in the cemetery. They are truly forgotten heroes. I love the caption on Mr. Morris' headstone. Wish you didn't have to die to know if that's true :)
So, let me ask a question. Do the people who profess “manual” is the ONLY way also refuse to make use of the modern conveniences of digital watches, television remotes and automatic transmission on a car? IMHO there is a time and place for everything.
I needed a good tripod too. I called B&H Photo. They asked how tall I was, what camera I had and which lens I owned. Based on that information, they recommended two tripods. The initial suggestion was a little pricier than I hoped, but they then provided another slightly more inexpensive, adequate one. Worth contacting them. No pressure to buy and very helpful.
Just a point to clarify for my own self preservation. If I am in manual focus mode, doesn’t the lens have to be set on manual?
Thank you for saying this. Whether it was intentional to cause hurt or an attempt to be funny, comments like “read the manual” make me want to leave the group. Thank you to all who sincerely provided support and advice
Thank you all, especially those of you who took the time to offer valuable detailed suggestions. When you are beginning to learn, it helps to hear it from professionals rather than read the manual. So much to think about. I appreciate it more than you will know.
