“Hi all, I’m a babysitter in the neighborhood and witnessed some suspicious activity at the Costanso Fire Station 84 Park. There was an older man taking photos of children through the fence at the park. When I asked him what he was doing he responded with - “I remember when my kids were that young”. As he continued taking photos I took out my phone and took one of him. Please be careful at this park and others in general. I’ve encountered some interesting people here before but this was over the line. When you’re at a park it’s not only extremely important to keep an eye on your kids but the environment around them as well. I’m a caregiver and have to be proactive when I have children under my care. I have an obligation to bring attention to things that seem out of the ordinary. He didn’t seem like he was a photographer or a passerby that was admiring kids at play. His behavior was bizarre. Just trying to inform everyone to be aware! “

There were many replies. The general tone was supportive. Two typical replies that stuck with me are included below:

“Sorry, it's creepy and inappropriate. If you're a photographer, there are plenty of other ways to take pics of children, i.e, kids of friends, relatives etc. For me, taking pics of random kids is a reason to be suspicious. There are to many pedophiles around. It's our job to protect our kids, better over protective than not enough and something happen. This will be the next guy you see on the news being arrested for having thousands of pics of kids on his computer. Good looking out girl!!”

“In today’s world No one should be taking photos of any children they do not know through a gated fence in a public park period. That gate is open and if it is a father/grandfather he could have gone inside to take photos of his kids.”

You may be correct, but guilty before being proven innocent may apply.

Maybe spend time trying to convince your legislators to get the weapons of war off the streets, and out of the hands of children and madmen...

My personal objective is to not edit anything and rely on the use of filters. I never was a software master but would use cropping from time to time. My advice, don't edit anything, you're projecting a false image and I would rather see what was taken without any post editing. AlLaNatural.

Projecting a lack of editing skill as a higher sense of professional understanding, takes a special skill in itself...

This guy walks into a bar with a chicken and sets him on the bar stool next to him.

The bartender turns, looks at the man and then the chicken and say's " we don't serve pigs here".

The man says "this is not a pig... this is a chicken".

The bartender say to the man " I wasn't talking to you, I was talking to the chicken".

I only use PS now for stacking and if you do have some rare ghosting for some reason, you can easily go into each layer mask afterwards and remove them manually!

Very generic statement...

Rare ghosting? ... stacking images, in what way are you masking?

Are you using color range for selections, and using minimum/maximum filters to accomplish edge refinements?

A bit of white halo, easy to remove in PS.
Pixel issues, cropped some already?
Sharpening issues, go back to the raw image and re-edit. Forget any HDR effects.

Contrast can be sharpening against a soft or under sharpened back-round. Water can get too sharp because of the blown highlights. Once you add that element of contrast, you will see the subtle transformation. when everything has equal in sharpening, and worse yet over sharpening, then it get busy and unflattering.

It would be great to see you use the many tips offered so far, and post the results. Definitely a good shot with potential.

What I find, especially when it comes to expression, is to wait and think about what is there, what enters the frame, and if it is worth the effort. I hate posed images, so i tend to trigger in between. More thought on composition skills, instead of 16fps are my latest and earliest thoughts.

I was thinking back to my first SLR, a Fuji AX1 back in the 1970s. I recall the time spent composing and maximizing my efforts (due to the cost and time to process film). I think that may be what differentiates what once was, from today.

Gathering endless quantities of digital imagery with little thought to composition, in hopes of hitting pay dirt seems to be a common acceptance... Some I know upload 300 images to fb each week and think little about the quality.

Gear and pixel intoxication, with the perception that the camera is an automated super box, has certainly changed things.

Slowing down, spending time with fixed lenses, composition, excepting grain, motion, contrast, and things that make you think more like an artist have a new priority for me. I'm spending much more time now before I hit the trigger...

10 TB's of external hard drives material on demand vs waiting a week as a teen to pick up 24 Kodachrome images, with the anticipation we all remember, makes one think.

There really is no hard core recipe in my opinion, but each point say much for sure.

Two from this week that have some of the qualities I think.

It's quite nice in my X100T as well but it's just 16MP to your 24MP. I console myself with the larger pixels and the fact that 16MP is plenty so long as I don't crop.

Totally off subject...

I am blown truly away by the images from my newly purchased 1DX MKii at last weeks event shooting... and the Fugi was unbelievable late evening in the streets. I normally shoot with a pair of MK4's.

The clarity, sharpness and color of the 1DX MKii is superior, especially with action... 20mpx seems so perfect.

With all the talk about the new 62mpx Sony, it's funny how the story seems to repeat as far as pixel shake goes with sharpness/ focus issues from the first reviews. There's no free lunch but consumers love the big pixel numbers...

I think pixel intoxication is taking over the market instead of quality of the pixel...

For the X100* and most others now it's a 14-bit file.

What surprises me is that the guy that wrote Fujifilm's X100F manual did not realize that. But you can see from the RawDigger plots that it's 14-bit and the Fuji spe sheets confirm it.

Amazing sensor in the x100F. I did use 12-8 bit as a loose comparison but failed to mention that...

And the raw files are each different, as I proved -- which is what I had claimed.

And this is still off-topic and I'm still waiting for an eternal reference that refutes my original statement (back to topic): "The problem with shooting raw + JPEG is that you can't have an optimum exposure for both."

Joe

As long as we are off target...

I really don't think you grasp that a RAW file is a range of data. What is captured in dynamic range as far as detail goes depends on your exposure. The image you see from the Jpeg is only a reference of one possible adjustment.

Raw is a 12 bit data file and a Jpeg is an 8 bit image file. the camera generates a Jpeg as an algorithm.

Here is a great resource: https://chrisbrayphotography.com/tips/raw_vs_jpg.php
