Thanks sbucko:

I previously used a Nikon D90 and had DX glass. When I bought the D810 I also bought the Nikon FX 28-300mm lens...figuring that it would be a good all around carry lens, and that was what I used. I'll keep using this lens until I can afford a broader range of FX glass.

I went to Japan last year...no problem with customs with my Nikon camera. Camera in my backpack, no questions asked.

I recently went from a D90 to a D810. No regrets. The quality and croping advantages of the D810 are far superior to the D90. I use some of my Dx lens on the 810 until I can save to purchase quality FX glass.

TNwaltz, thank you for you timely question. I just received my new D810 about 4 weeks ago and still and I am on the steep learning curve. The answers helped a lot!

Looking back in time, the 30's-50's most celebrities(movie stars, sports people) did not give personal opinions on politics or other socially sensitive issues. Now nearly everyone feels inclined to give their personal opinion, as if we really care what they think.

A few weeks ago B&H delivered my new D810 and as soon as I opened the box, I downloaded the manual to my iPad. Very easy to access the contents, particularly when you have to jump back and forth between pages.

Great find. I had a similar experience in my own basement. Many years ago I shot with an old Pentax Spotmatic.....glad I kept the lenses because I recently bought a Fotodiox lens adapter (M42) and now, I can use two of my old lenses on my new D810. They work great!!!

A good zoom such as 18-300 or 28-300 is a good choice as there are many subjects both near & far that you will want to capture. You don't want to carry more than you need or change lenses more than necessary since you will be in crowds & it can be hot & dusty.

I echo IHdiver's comments. I went to India and Nepal about two years ago. A great trip with lot's of photo opportunities of temples, brightly colored dress and markets. I primarily used a 18-300 lens, which I found very useful when taking discrete photos of people and events.

I'll be taking a trip with my new D810 to Easter Island and Patagonia. Any thoughts on great photo opportunities that I should be looking out for?

Thank you, I did not know that. I play and used an old German made fiddle that my grandfather had.
