Thank you all for your comments. I have done a copy paste of my pictures folder to my Passport and deleted all other directories and files. Copy paste will mean I don't have to wait an hour while my files are backed up.

The only issue I have with this is that you have to be diligent in making sure you do the copy/paste regularly. I like to automate the process, to make sure it happens.

Yea, unfortunately you cannot "copy" the software, it has to be installed. I really hate changing computers. Can't do an image restore on a new box since the guts will be different.
I finally made a list of all software packages that I have on each computer to make it easier for me.

But you can clone an old hard drive onto a new one with larger capacity (or to an SSD) if the old drive is still operational. I did this to get Windows and all my application software onto a SSD and now use the previous boot HD just for data. Having that list of all programs you have installed is a great idea - I keep a spreadsheet that lists the install file name and any updates I've performed. Backing up your Downloads, as TriX mentioned, is also a great idea.

On my Fuji cameras is my 18-55 going to be wide enough?

if you are happy with the images that the 18-55 produces, I would use it at somewhere around 20-30mm to create multiple images to stitch into a panorama. Try this at home before you travel to perfect the technique.

S--t happens. Get over it and buy a new battery. And make sure it's not a cra---e 3rd party one.

I did not see the original post as complaining about the failure, but rather pointing out that OEM batteries can fail, too. Or do you consider this Nikon branded battery to be "cra---e 3rd party"?

Likewise for me. Blue Professional Photoguide and Brown covered Darkroom volume. I also have the compete set of the Life Library of Photography. All were invaluable aids in the pre-internet world.

I have LR set to back up the Catalog every time I close LR. However, note that each time the backup dialog presents itself you have the option to Skip the backup, which I do if I have done no editing. Once every few weeks, I go to the directory where the Catalog backups are stored and delete most but the latest couple. In addition, nightly I use a backup program to save my data files (which includes my LR Catalog and its' back ups to an external drive. So usually I have three copies of a very recent Catalog, should anything go wrong.

The subscription version of LR gives several new features, but the biggest plus is that Photoshop is included in the subscription.

I especially dislike it when a waterline is involved.

Yes, I sometimes feel like all the water is going to run out one side of the photo.

I have traveled to many locations that I knew I would not have another opportunity to revisit. So, I take photographs whether the light is "right" or not. I regard these as "record shots" that go into an album for me to peruse at some later date to remind me of the wonderful times that I had on that trip. Not every image that I capture has to be a "hero" photo. Nonetheless, they are important to me.

Likewise.

You might want to take a look at this NY Times article - "Converting High Efficiency Image File Photos for Windows" https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/29/technology/personaltech/convert-heic-heif-windows.html
They specifically mention a Windows program, CopyTrans HEIC. Apparently Microsoft is working on a CODEC to do the job natively in the OS.

Awesome video and stills. I thought it was amazing that a hummer landed in your hand. Our Ruby Throated hummers seem slightly too skittish for that to happen, but I have been close to them when they have been on my wife's planters on our patio.

They don't have Liras anymore in Italy, they have Euros. Go to any ATM machine and get your Euros. Stores and Restaurants have all their prices listed with tax included, so you won't get cheated.

All good points. And it would be great to have a bank card that does not charge foreign transaction fees. Mine refunded all my fees once I returned from a European trip.

It looks more like a rose of sharon to me, which is a relative of the hibiscus.

I agree. My neighbor has one, as did my mother when I was growing up.
