Thanks Tom, hopefully it will help. It just made sense to me...you know, life and death. The rose was starting to wilt and the leaves shrivel..very appropriate. I actually just reposted the edited version because of several questions about the sculpture and thought I'd answer those in the post. I have thoroughly enjoyed this discussion. Thank you
Fran

You are welcome Fran. Where is Chesterland?

That flower bunch was in my original picture, although not as obvious. I just didn't include it in the editing. And yes...still very creepy, yet some how beautiful in its artistry.
Fran

I think that red flower bunch would get you more points from the judges. I see them do that frequently during the print competition meetings I've attended. It becomes an "accent"

Yes, I would have to agree!!! I actually entered a contest with this. The contest theme was "scary" I'll see how it turns out. Here's the final product:
Thanks for the discussion
Fran

From a photographer's view, that red rose was a perfect addition. But it's still creepy...ha

I just realized that complete name of the statue is "Angel of Death Victorious" The angel holds an extinguished torch upside-down which symbolizes life extinquished. So in that sense, I would surmise that it is more ominous, in that death wins always.
Fran

Kinda morbid to have this over a grave, wouldn't you think? I rather have the "Angel of Happy Times and Celebrations Coming in Heaven".......

This is one of the most amazing statues at Lakeview Cemetery in Cleveland Ohio. It is called "Angel of Death" It is bronze, old, larger than life, and very verdigrised. One of my favorites and one of most photographed in the cemetery. Please download and thanks for looking.
Fran

Is the Angel of "Death" supposed to be friendly or an ominous warning?

You are right! And my face is RED! Apologies!

Don't worry partner. Your RED face will turn blue by the end of the day. lol

I know you're still thrilled over that grandchild, but don't get ahead of yourself. Have you got those new lenses on order yet? Won't be long before soccer and tee ball are here, so you should get those lenses now and get practicing.....ha ha

I do not disagree with you, tomcat, but they are wrong. if we do not learn from history, it will repeat it self. You cannot disregard the past like it never happened.

You and I agree 100%. But I'm telling you from experience that they will take posts down indiscriminatly under the guise of "political". They have no discernment--only a lean to the left's positions.

It is only political if you see it as. It is part of our history and you cannot change that !

As soon as those picky admins see the f**g, it will come down. The judges have no heart or compassion for history. They will see it as an affront to the B*M group---just telling' ya.

I admit to not knowing much about Sagan. Could you please elaborate. In what way did he refuse to accept what he could not explain?

The origins of life and the universe. He had this cock-in-bull story that there was a "big bang" and the earth formed into a round ball after spinning for a while.....incredible

Perhaps now more than ever, it would be helpful for people to be able to recognize baloney. Sagan's book has its main concepts summarized in this great article.

The Baloney Detection Kit: Carl Sagan’s Rules for Bullshit-Busting and Critical Thinking

You can hold him in high regard if you wish, but to me, he was a closed-minded flake that led many people down the path of irresponsibility by refusing to accept what he could not explain... There are many things in this world that the weak mind of man cannot explain or understand and we just have to accept them as a basic tenet of the origin of life

Congratulations! Probably the best justification for new/upgraded equipment.

Anecdotally, a friend of mine who's a Canon owner, bought an $11,000 telephoto so he could shoot his granddaughter playing soccer. Now, THAT's love!

I bought a Z6, a Sigma Art 24-32mm f/2 wide angle, an 85mm S f/1.8, a Sigma Art 135mm f/1.8 for mine. All told about $4500. But I would love to have that 120-300mm Nikon lens myself ($12,000)

Last week, my wife and I, along with another couple had long-standing reservations for the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad trip out of Bryson City NC. The 4 of us took this same trip last October, and we had beautiful weather. This time however, we were given heavy rains on both Wednesday, October 28 and Thursday, October 29th. The rain turned out to be TS Zeta. The Wednesday train trip was fine as we were in the dining car: nice lunch and dry seating. The stop at Nantahala Outdoor Center was wet, but I managed to walk to the front of the steam locomotive and got some nice shots out in the natural surroundings. During the night, the main part of the storm hit-lots of rain and wind. Thursday morning's trip into the Smokies was incredible. We live 2 hours from the Smokies and have been there many times during the past 11 years. But this time was really different. The gentle streams had become rivers. Little cascades had become waterfalls. Fields had become lakes. It was a very memorable visit, indeed. Hope you enjoy!

From your pictures above, the old steam locomotive has now been restored and is back in service? My wife and I went a few years ago and rode the steam loco, but when we went back a few years later, the steamer was on a side track and not running.
