I'd really like to see the 'big picture'. Could you repost and click on "store original"? That would let us see the full glory of those beautiful shots.

Thank you, wonderful photographs. Maybe I need to get a longer lens for my Nikon D5200? before I go?

Your 300mm on a crop frame will give the field of view of a 450mm lens. In a pinch that may be enough with some cropping of some images, but I think you will be happier with the results with a longer lens. The large birds (boobies) and the mammals and iguanas are quite calm and tolerate close contact well but the smaller birds can be easily startled as well as the sally lightfoot crabs. They have predators on the islands (hawks and herons) so they are quite nervous. The focal length of all the shots in the flicker album are shown in the EXIF data, but they show the actual focal length, not the full frame equivalent. So just double what is shown. You can see how often I went over 450mm.

I am heading to Galalagos in May, and since the wildlife is so accustomed to humans, so I have read, is there any need to bring my 150 - 600 Tamron lens along for the trip? I will also be going to Machu Picchu, where I understand there are restrictions on the length of lens that you are allowed to take. This is my first discussion since joining a few months ago. I am thoroughly enjoying the discussions on uhh.

I recommend you take your 150-600. On my trip to the Galapagos I carried a Panasonic GX8 (Micro 4/3 sensor) which has a field of view which effectively doubles the focal length. Many of my shots were over 300mm (equivalent of 600mm) and several were at the equivalent of 800mm. It depends on whether you want landscapes with critters in them or you want some close-ups of the critters. Here is the link to my Galapagos album on Flickr.

You can't get shots like this with a 300mm lens. Even though the birds are not very nervous, small birds will require all your lens can give. Just make sure you have a totally waterproof bag to carry your camera in for 'wet landings'. I saw an elderly gent stumble and fall walking in water about knee deep. His Canon full frame camera and 100-400 lens went for a swim in the salt water and died a sad death.

Hmmmm.....Go back and read your own posts. If you take shots at somebody else don't be surprised if you get shot at. As it is, MT is a longtime respected member of UHH. I don't know who the heck you are. Underdog? Chris T originally came to UHH as ChrisT. He has a Messianic complex, is narcissistic and has a very thick skin. MT's frustration with a guy like Chris is that he lowers the standard of what used to be a very good forum.

Hear! hear! Not only does he lower the standard, he fills the forum with garbage - posts of no real interest or utility to anyone....except those that like to play the same game. I tried jousting with him on a few occasions to try to bring some sanity to the discussion. But I found that he ignored the meat of my post and zeroed in on some incidental and irrelevant detail. One thing is clear to me, that nobody is learning anything from his posts or the discussions that ensue. I don't play any more.

I think you have found a great subject. I like the idea of the ice forming on the rocks from the spray from the rushing water. But I think you have to get off the bridge. The big chunk of blurry ice in the foreground is a major fault. I think a lower camera position would give you a shot with the icy wall on the left and the main part of the waterfall on the right. You'll have to "work" the site. But do it before the ice melts.

I use Lightroom rather than elements, but I load my raw files into Lightroom just to add keywords and preview them. I do no edits in Lightroom at this time. From there I transfer them to DXOPhotolab where the conversion from raw takes place. I do most of my editing in DXO (including de-noiseing) then export them back to Lightroom as TIFF files to get them into the catalog. I rarely do any edits in Lightroom at this point. When it is time to use the image I might do some editing in Lightroom, such as sharpening for purpose (less for web, more for prints) and then export as jpeg or TIFF as the job requires.

For those of us who wonder about the direction and purpose of high pixel sensors, Hasselblad's new H6D_400c uses 100 mp then physically shifts the pixels to produce a final 400 mp image. What is it good for? read it at https://www.dpreview.com/news/9807859981/the-hasselblad-h6d-400c-multi-shot-spits-out-insane-400mp-images

It takes very highly detailed landscapes which can be printed as big as your wall. It's for pros who can write it off.

This is an excellent course on the fundamentals - not on the technical detail. Joel Sartori (assuming he is still doing it) is an excellent instructor. Look at the subject titles. He does not dwell on the minutiae of f-stops and depth of field and sensor size versus dynamic range etc - subjects which are so prevalent on UHH. If you are open minded about learning and not a 'gear head', you will enjoy the course. You will get the most out of it if you take your time. Watch a lesson then go practice it until you've "got it". I have a saying by Joel Sartori on the wall in my office; "Your excuses don't make your pictures any better."

That's the way the film is. As I said I took pictures of the model they had in the store. I can't find those slides any more but look here and you can see. It's not as bad as TV but it looks like it.

If you're not just trying to stir up a useless discussion, but actually want a FF camera, why don't you sell some of your camera collection and just buy one?
