I went to the PPA show today at Opryland Hotel, looking for a new lens. Did not find the lens, but saw an interesting display. This company had a model doing continuous poses, and they were demo'ing some new cameras. An excellent idea to have a model to shoot at the show. First time I have seen that. Taken with a a6500 on Auto. I know, I know, who uses auto. The show was absolutely jammed. I hope the vendors found business to be good. Did not see Nikon or Sony there. Maybe I missed them, or maybe they don't need the business!

Sometime around 1955 I went to a photo show in DC. Virtually all of the vendors of cameras had a model in a bikini who would pose for the passers by. Since I was pretty young and not well enough heeled to buy any new camera equipment, that seems to be the only thing I remember about the show.

I wanted to go but just didn't make it :( But I also noticed that Nikon and Sony were not on the Vendor List. Hopefully you got some things in your goodie bag?

It's a cool idea but not new...i've seen this at other photo trade shows...it does tend to build a crowd at the booth :)

It has been done quite often. At one time in the mid 80's I went to a camera shop and they have both the demo of the then newly introduced Minolta Maxxum 9000 and also the Polachrome. I bought a roll of Polachrome, using their demo Maxxum 9000, using their studio lights setup and took the pictures of the model they had there. They would then process my film in a minute or so. I can't find those slides any more. It was ISO 25 and has visible lines like that on an old analog TV. The color was good though.

That's the way the film is. As I said I took pictures of the model they had in the store. I can't find those slides any more but look here and you can see. It's not as bad as TV but it looks like it.

However the slides that I took had much better color and saturation.

That is a photograph of a picture which was printed on pressed paper.

Yes definitely...some printing process made those "scan" lines...normally film or a direct optical print would not make them (unless taken of another print or off the old boob tube).

Check here. The lines were small but when projected I can see them.

Polachrome is a very unusual case - and a different process of side by side color receptors rather than stacked as with C-41 process films. But still the lines in the other image of the other post is definitely a printing process, not Polachrome color film pattern which would require a microscope (or high power loupe) for visibility.

Side note: I like looking at old photo mags - the ads are hilarious today.

Yeah! I knew that I saw the lines on my slides but I can't find them any more. I tried to find and example online and I think I got a bad example. I remember that the slides looked great, color has good saturation but when I projected them I saw the lines although the slides still looked sharp.

The funny thing is now it brought back memories - I remember when Polachrome first came out I wanted to try it out...but never got around to it - was having too much fun with Kodachrome 64 (before Mama took it away!)...it was a unique idea at the time although bad in other respects. Ah, the glory days of analog photography!

I wouldn't have tried it either but as in my first post I walked in to the store and they were promoting the Maxxum 9000 and Polachrome at the same time. So they hired a model and have the studio strobes setup so I bought a roll and used their Maxxum 9000 and shot a roll and then used their demo processor to develop the film. That was the only roll I ever shot.
