Yup, because the cars are underexposed and are moving too fast to be recorded. The tail lights are moving the same speed, but are well exposed so show up. Nice shots, btw.

Thanks, it's a pretty amazing result. I will have to play with this some more ;-)

This is weird. Since my camera club is on the subject of slow shutter speed this month, I thought I'd try my hand at capturing tail lights. I'm mystified by the results. Firstly, PLEASE, overlook the shortcomings of the photos. I was just experimenting to get an idea....there's NOTHING I would share here, except for this question. Where are the cars...LOL? Check it out. I see the tail lights, but no cars. Is this the way shots like this are supposed to look, even when shot skillfully? I'm LOL at these car-less images. Anyone know what happened to the cars???

Look Mom, there's no car!

Hey Dad, where'd you hide the car?

Starburst lillies, growing next to our house in a protected alcove with early morning sun hitting them.

Processed in Lr 5.7, then background darkened in NIK Viveza 2.

Nice job!

Thank you very much, may I call you RD; I appreciate it.

Haha. My middle name is Richard, but the only person who ever called me that was my mother, when she was mad at me. My parents used my middle name to avoid confusion with my father's first name and mine. My friends call me Dick and that's the name I've answered to all my life. But RD works if you like.

With a bridge camera and a superzoom your pictures will be better than the samples here.

Some Canon SX 20 results from Alaska...

Things happen really fast in Alaska. You'll want your camera with you and ready to shoot on a second's notice. As I said, the new Canon SX60HS is my choice (I like the shutter button zoom lever), but the Nikon P900 would be great as well. Unless you plan to pose all your shots, you won't have time to choose just the right lens, etc. I was on a sailboat, so the bridge camera was ideal. I never set sail without the camera right next to me at the helm.

I love that shot. The blurring of the waterfall is great. You nailed it. I just took my first long exposure shot of a waterfall for a camera club assignment. I like the effect a lot. You are very right about the shadows.

Very artistic. The last one has a distinctly haunting flavor to it that conjures up Hitchcockian thoughts.

Going to Alaska (Denali) and a cruise. Need suggestions on Nikon equipment for shooting landscapes and wildlife. I have been reviewing equipment specs, but still confused. Please help. Thank you.

I’m a big believer in “bridge” cameras for traveling. I went all through the Alaskan panhandle on a sailboat with a Canon SX 20 and got excellent results. I recently upgraded that to a SX 60 HS and love the results (many posted in this forum).

The Nikon P900 is an excellent choice as well and the extra zoom will come in handy in Alaska. I use a Nikon D7200 for my “artistic” work, but I doubt I’d drag it along with assorted lenses, etc, to Alaska.

You’ve come to the right place. The knowledge and feedback you’ll find here is invaluable and will rapidly increase your ability. Have fun, read the manual and, most important of all, get out there and practice.

Good shots. What lens did you use?
