For Ian and Tilde:

I Just got off the phone with a good friend living in northern Minnesota near the Canadian border. He said that since early this morning the snow is nearly waist high and is still falling. The temperature is dropping and is at about 15 degrees, and the north wind is expected to increase to near gale force. His photographer wife has done nothing all morning but sit with her nose to the kitchen window and just stare.

He says that if the weather gets much worse, he may have to let her in.

I've been a Hedgehog stalker for a couple of months now. I must say that the pics you guys post are pretty intimidating. I have enjoyed shooting for years. Always had a P&S due to convenience (motorcycle trips, ATV rides, hiking etc.) and ignorance. My ignorance continues. Due to $$$ and giving consideration to the fact that I didn't know enough to justify spendiing more. I purchased a Panasonic G2 MILC. I have sooo much to learn. But I think I'm getting some decent shots. I can take it. Go ahead and tell me what you think.

Welcome, and enjoy. If you explore every nook and cranny on this site, you'll find tons of information. I keep a small notebook handy to write down tips, websites etc. It helps.

Yes, I have a daily notepad at work and have been writing things down like moonshot settings, etc....great idea.

For any of you in the Northeast Tri-State Area.... Milford Photo in Milford, CT (I-95) is running a basics class for the above cameras on Thursday evening January 12, 2012.
These guys are knowledgeable, friendly, and do alot for the local photo community (free meetups nearly every weekend, seminars, etc.) They are just good, old fashioned small town camera guys that have survived by serving thier customers.
I know its a "School Night" but I thought I'd spread the word. You can find 'em at www.milfordphoto.com

Lived in Hawaii for 11 years....not into photography at that time, just lots of snapshots...each island ranges from semi-arid almost desert-like dryness to lush tropical foliage, due to trade winds causing heavy rainfall on the windward side of islands with very dry leeward climates as a result....spectacular!
