Oh, what is the other lens you have on order yet?

The second lens is an AF-S Nikkor f/4 VR. Refurbished.

Whether you like the D850 strap or not, why advertise you're carrying a $3200 camera plus lens on your shoulder? There are those who just love to do a grab and run with your new gear. Plus, there's a reason Nikon puts its name and camera type on a their strap. Free advertising! Better safe than sorry.

I hadn’t thought of that. I’ll order a bland strap. But isn’t the camera with its big honking lens a dead giveaway with it without the strap?

Curl up somewhere and read the manual cover to cover sooner rather than later.

I am. Very complex reading I ordered a book to try to understand the application of the myriad of new settings.

Great buy. Fantastic camera. Can be tricky at first though. Don't get too frustrated.

Your message couldn’t have been more timely...

You mention when you joined just having bought a camera, I see you also posted about the purchase of a D7200, and now the D850. What motivated the buying spree?

I quickly decided that I ultimately wouldn’t be happy with the D7200 and the kit lenses for long, so I made the move while I could still return it. I just sold my beloved Catalina 470 sailboat, so I needed a hobby and getting back into photography in a big way seemed like the plan. So far, so good.

I just got my D850 today. What a camera! I noticed while flipping through the menu that the HDR function only works in JPEG, not in RAW. I guess that's because the two images have to be processed in the camera. But it's nice to know it has such a great dynamic range without that function. It came early this evening and it's raining out, so I've just been fooling around indoors. So far, I'm amazed, but I must admit, a little overwhelmed as well.

Certainly. One of the first things I did was go buy another camera strap. While my crop sensor Nikons seemed fine with their Nikon straps, I didn't care for the D850 strap.

You’re up late! Another night owl? I’ll live with the strap for awhile. I’ve spent too much money already...LOL.

Wahoo! My new camera arrived from Best Buy... right on schedule. Also one of the 2 lenses arrived...the AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm, F/2.8E ED VR! Am I ever having fun. So much to learn. I'll be leaning heavily on all of you, but it will take me a few days to read the User's Manual, so you're all safe for now...LOL. This is a great group. I'm so glad I stumbled across UHH. BTW...who made up the name Ugly Hedgehog? Talk to you all soon!

The first is my favorite. I think you done a great job on this. The reflective surface gives the shot a lot of special interest, the blossoms are beautiful and stacking adds a lot in my opinion. I love the crisp detail!

Thanks for sharing. I think the single shot is better. My D850 is arriving tomorrow, so I can barely wait to see for myself. Keep your posts coming. It will be fun to compare notes!

Thank you so much ebbote .

That's a great image. I'm eating my heart out because our camera club assignment this month is all about shadows. There are some blue herons in my neighborhood, so I'm hoping to find one in just the right pose over the next month. Nice job!

Fuji cameras optionally apply an art filter before or after the shot, but also allow the photographer to dial the effect back down to a realistic level.

I generally do all that in pp with PS CC. I only carry polarizers and ND filters. Both my cameras have some variation of "themes" or "scenes" that put some filtering on your images.
