I have yet to be convinced that any mirrorless camera can capture bif as well as a DSLR. The D500 armed with the right lens is an exceptional example for bif photography. If someone could show me a mirrorless camera that could perform as well as the D500 for bif I would buy it tomorrow.

35mm f1.8 is 50mm equivalent on DX. Great walkabout option.

Yes, but it did not appear to hold its charge as well as an ordinary en15

I use the 16-80 as a general walkabout lens and am very pleased with the results. I also have a 35mm for street photography. For wildlife I am moving away from the 80-400 and 200-500, both are great lenses, but not as good as the new lightweight PF primes.

I did, but was concerned that it did not seem to hold its charge as well as my other batteries so I sent it back. However, thank you for your advise as I have now received another battery from a different supplier that also had no charge when I put it in the camera.

That’s right, but I think the one I got is a bit of a dud. Sending it back and getting a new one from a different supplier. If it does work as described then I plan to get some more.

I’m in the UK. They are going to refund. The company is Jessops who are a well know retailer with high street shops as well as selling on the internet. I’ve just ordered another battery from an alternative supplier. I’m looking to stock up on the EL15b’s to get a longer battery life for a trip coming up next year. Just bought one for now to test it out!!

I have just received a new Nikon EN-EL15b battery from a reputable retailer. I have gone for this battery as I understand that it will give me increased battery life in my D500. However, when the battery arrived I noted that it was completely discharged. While I believe I am correct in saying that batteries should not be sent by post fully charged I was surprised to find that it was totally flat when it arrived. I also note that the date stamp on the battery is Nov 2018, so a year old. My question is that as the battery appears to be a year old and has been fully discharged could this affect its performance

I have heard a few examples of external hard drives failing. I currently have one external drive and am planning to get a second. However, forgive my ignorance, but I leave my current HD on all the time. Should I be switching it off between use?

I bought the 105 Sigma as a birthday present for my partner. She is blown away by the quality of the images.

I mainly shoot wildlife and action shots bif etc. Everyone I have spoken to with a mirrored camera confirms my suspicion that my D500 has a better AF system to capture bif than a mirrorless camera. I also have concerns about battery life. I like the image quality achieved by mirror less cameras and would gladly swap my gear for an Olympus Em1x and the Olympus 300mm prime and Panasonic 109-400 zoom if someone could allay my above fears.

That’s why I said little/no chance to recharged. The vehicles will have other guests who will share the charger and cannot be used for charging at the end of a day for risk of a flat battery. Hence the need for a backup plan.

My partner and I are going on a safari next year where we will be camping in the reserves with no power, so no/limited options to recharge batteries. As well as taking extra batteries I am going to take some usb plug in chargers that can be plugged into power banks. I have done a bit of experimenting and reckon I will get 3/4 charges from a 20000mah powerbank.

My main reason for using smaller cards and changing them more frequently is the potential to lose or have my camera stolen. If that happens then at least I have some pics as I keep the cards separate from my camera gear.
