I have decided to give my Nikon D3500 a super wide angle lens for my soon-coming 89th birthday. I checked around & was startled to see how many choices there are. The 6 choices that most caught my eye are as follows:

a) Nikon AF-P DX 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G
b) Nikon AF-S DX 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G
c) Tamron 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 Di II VC HLD
d) Sigma 8-16mm F4.5-5.6 DC HSM AF
e) Tokina AT-X PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8
f) Tokina AT-X 11-20mm f/2.8 PRO DX

I'm a novice -- strictly a hobbyist. I mostly shoot candids at family times, and landscapes when I amble around on my own. The best of the candids will get stuck in a family album (I'm old-fashioned that way) & the landscapes will probably languish on my computer.

So... which of these 6 should I buy? (I presently lean toward (f) because of the 2.8 or (d) because of the wide 8mm end, but I am clueless about other selection factors.)

Your comments & suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I shall indeed do a "rest of the story" but it will be a while. The lenses are due in o/a late this month. However, deliveries to Hawaii can sometimes be a bit slow. (sigh)

Oi vey, the 2 B&H Lexars linked above have fairly numerous & equally disturbing negative reviews because of damaged memory cards & damaged computers. I guess it's a crap shoot but, fortunately, the odds are pretty good that nothing will go wrong. I'll buy 1 from my local Walmart & hope for the best.

I checked Amazon for card readers. Even the ones with 4.5 stars had 7% to 10% 1-star ratings that gave me the jitters. Reason: those 1-star ratings reported damage to memory cards, or damage to their computer's USB port, or readers that died in just a few months after purchase.

Moreover, the readers I looked at were all priced at around $30 or less (mostly less... much less). I suppose that's because a reader is a fairly simple mechanism. However, such low prices evidently do NOT motivate the manufacturers to spend money on quality control.

Okay, I could live with some damage to my computer -- fixing that merely costs a bit of inconvenience and money. I could also live with reader-failure after a relatively short period of time. BUT the idea of potentially having a memory card destroyed by the reader is bad bad bad.

I know I could read cards directly from camera to computer -- it's slow, but I will do so if necessary. I also know I could replace my aging computer with one having a built in card reader. But.....

QUESTION: Is there a card reader out there that DOES have good quality? (I don't mind paying for quality. There is stuff where you can take a chance and go cheap, but a memory card is definitely NOT one of them!)

For gas: drinking hot water is best, no side effects (drinkable hot)
We're talking real flatus here, I suppose. In which case, drinkably hot chamomile tea is good, too.

Hang all these in a gallery, and I would pay sizeable bucks for only one -- the man in B&W. In a heartbeat!

In color -- a great photo. In B&W -- stunning!!!

Toad pee -- rub it in your hair. Cures dandruff I'm told.

P.S. Great picture of one of our planet's fellow travelers. (Eat a roach & I'll be your friend forever.)

Well... anybody can make a picture this good -- if (and only IF) they have a cat, and a box, and a camera, and they're lucky, and have lots of talent. Sheesh!

But seriously -- WOW!!!

Tu Tu true. (I never "got" Seinfeld. I suppose I'm too old and out-of-date... like my Brownie cameras.)

Thanks for the thoughts and time to look these over! I can appreciate the rocks being an odd photograph to post. Perhaps I should have shared that these were stacked/balanced by a 5 year old boy. I guess the use of captions and or descriptions would have been useful on photos that wouldn't normally be appealing.
I appreciate your help!
Some folks would find the rocks to be VERY appealing. I have a Japanese friend whose garden is mostly sculptured sand, rocks, & zen-type statues. His garden didn't make me say, "Wow, that is sooo beautiful!" Instead, I said (to myself), "How still & peaceful it is. I shall stay here and just relax for a while."

Your photo of a 5 year old boy's creative work renders those rocks into being a truly truly amazing bit of art! I now contemplate them with much shared joy, as I mentally picture the small hands that so carefully and thoughtfully arranged them JUST SO. (I have a great-great grandson who is about that same age. His drawings are magnetically attached, all over my refrigerator's door).

@Scruples -- I greatly appreciated your suggested cure for GAS. I could easily discern that it was clearly offered with tongue in cheek. VERY clearly!

@All -- good counsel! I saw great consistency as to folks commending the value of the 18-200 as a walking-around lens (that's exactly what I want). I love this forum!

I'm going to give both lens a good trial, as suggested. I will be especially interested in comparing which of these 2 lenses is better when shooting at 150mm & beyond. Like Bill P, I'm guessing it will be the 55-200.

I had a severe GAS attack when vising EBAY today. I found a good deal on a Nikon AF-S DX 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED VR II Lens so I bought it. A while later I found an even greater deal on a Nikon AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED so I bought it, too. These 2 lenses are sort of similar, so I'm wondering if I should give 1 of them away..........

Q1- Should I give 1 of the 2 lenses away?

Q2- If so, which should I KEEP: (a) the 18-200mm or (b) the 55-200mm.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
By the way, is there a pill that will cure my GAS?
