I also use a Canon G7X Mark II that is wonderful and fits the bill for travel. My Canon EOS APS-C is now left at home. Initially I felt the range was a little short but have found we only need more distance on rare occasion and when we do my wife may pack a Canon Powershot SX200 IS which is even smaller, has more range and still takes great shots. If I shot much video I would have gone with Sony RX model but personally prefer Canon’s resolution and color for stills. Main point is our travel has become much more enjoyable withou packing so much glass. If my main focus is strictly photo after photo then I will use my bulkier glass packages, but the versatility and convenience of smaller units today has changed my direction and comfort level. So much quality out there today.

NFL players and executives are bunch of chumps. If they have issues, address them like real gentlemen/ladies and put up or shut up. Object all they want but don’t disrespect the Flag that provided them the rights they have—-if they are serious then they should boycott and refuse to play the game. Oh my, they may actually lose some of their remarkable cash. I believe they actually may agree with me that a lot of people will actually find they really don’t need NFL! I’ve not watched or followed since the first kneeling and there’s not much they can do to win me back. My Sunday’s are free and I feel better than ever. The root problem with today’s protests are everyone protesting enjoys expressing their opinion but are not receptive to those with opposing views. Sounds very elementary “ Schoolish.”

Great itinerary for great photo ops...I would not want to miss out because of a cell phone compromise. Many options; with all you are doing I would choose a good quality point and shoot or bridge camera. There are many out there. I am a believer in a handy small camera compromise is better than a large bulky camera that “I may not have with me.” Enjoy the trip and keep a good camera with you at all times...won’t regret it.

Unfamiliar with it but I do have and still use a Canon AE-1 Program I purchased new in the 80s. It performs exceptionally well and has great pictures. Just needs a drop of oil every 6-7 years. Good luck and think you can still enjoy film. However, I also own and use dslrs and high level pocket cameras. The AE-1 is a joy though.

Many point and shoot style cameras out there and Canon gives you the luxury of lots to choose from...Powershot line goes to great lengths to provide many options. I used a few of them before deciding on the G7X Mii-now my “Go To.” The G9 performs great when compared to many others and you can find it to be a great “bang for the buck!” Won’t go wrong with it for sure. Good luck.

Very subjective....hmmm. Maybe not the Best of all time but my Canon AE-1 Program, black and silver body, 1.8, from 1986 still works wonderfully and a favorite of mine. Very dependable and still takes remarkable pictures. Wouldn’t part with it! DSLRs are definitely great and superior in many ways but AE-1 is special to me.

Go to dpreview and view studio shop comparison. It gives you the ability to check approx. 4 different camera brand shots results. You can also change the ISO and vary JPEG vs RAW shots. Very informative.
I have used Canon, Leica, and Sony point and shoots and all have their own individual pro and cons that you need to decide for yourself. I am aware Nikon Coolpix have a bold reputation but have only used the larger DSLRs which are very good.
I suggest you compare size, weight, telephoto and technical abilities important to you. I suggest if you do your research, you will ultimately choose from several cameras that will not disappoint you. A lot suggest Panasonic LUMIX which I agree are very good but sometimes the resulting photos come up a little “soft”compared to Canon, Sony, and Leica and although there are several with great telephoto, the end result may be lacking.
Happy hunting.

The Canon Powershot SX200IS is a very nice, reliable point and shoot with great zoom. Have had one for 8+ years with no problems—Great Pictures and a lot of creativity selections as well as Auto features. Can find on Amazon or eBay for $70 + or other on-line sites. Have used Canon, Nikon, Sony, and Leica and this little pal is awesome.

I am sure, but it is part of the Hedgehog Photography Forum link that says nothing about “general chit-chat.” Opened the link looking for photos of what may have been defining moments and not back and forth favorite team slang.

Joined the UHHog for great photography interaction. Debates about football, politics, etc. is really a “downer.” Great photos of games is one thing...but this is DEPRESSING.

Simply, if you have $1500 for a starter, spend $400+ on the Canon G9x Mark ii which will touch most bases for you. It will provide you with a very good quality “starter pocket-type” camera which you can actively learn with. After a while you should know how far down the $$ path to go. Also, it is a camera you will be glad you kept for a lot of reasons down the road; should you decide to go more costly full frame, mirror less, etc. You can also order the Canon (or Sony, Panasonic, etc.) on Amazon or other site and try for 30days before returning if undesirable. BTW, some of the Photo Stores will charge you a re-stocking fee to return...not all Amazon sellers charge this. Also, if you choose International version—may not have a warranty.

I use both but have stayed with Canon because that is what I have most of. Both are excellent and will not disappoint. However, as others have mentioned it is a large and varied field. $1,500 will buy you a very good starter system for sure-depending on your needs. I agree with others that the Mirrorless and other point and shoots of today offer a lot for the money. There are many lighter and less complicated systems if you want a light and capable travel camera; many have fast 1.4 - 2.0 lens that meet lots of folks needs. Also, agree to perhaps expand search to Olympus, Pentax, Panasonic, Leica, Sony—take your time. Sony offers great video systems in my opinion but a lot out there. Good Luck !!

The Leica C Type 112 May be just what you are looking for.....small and thin, very light-weight, extremely versatile, great zoom on a small pocket camera, and of course the great Leica capabilities.

Spent a couple months testing different travel cameras. Highly suggest dpreview.com and review contrasts of different cameras with like settings. I physically tried Leica C Type 112, Canon G9X Mark II, Canon G7X Mark II, Sony RX100 MII, and Panasonic LX10. All have distinct advantages and each person will have a different view because of the settings, weight, etc. My objective review is the Leica is the best looking, lightest weight, and has the best zoom photo capability. The Panasonic images were a little soft around the edges and in corners and fades at zoom. The G9X performed great and similar to the Leica with less zoom power. The Sony probably has the best video but not as important for my needs and its stills often appeared under exposed. The G7X won out for me as the best all-around. The Leica was a very close 2nd for me because of it’s handiness and reputation for quality. The Leica and Panasonic companies have working agreements for sure but the Type 112 does not have the Leica’s vaunted German-made lens; more of the Panasonic value—yet very impressive. The G7x is the heaviest of the group but not bulky in any sense. I have always enjoyed the Canon support on-line or phone when needed. Leica has good support but not the easiest to communicate with always. Decision will also depend on if a viewfinder is needed, want a tilt (self) screen, etc. The fast lenses on these cameras do exceptionally well. My G7X takes great low-light photos as did the Leica. There are price swings among the aforementioned cameras of up to $200. Many values out there now.
Hope this helps.
