That was a time when we were all proud to be American and proud of our Flag.

I'll watch NFL football again when these overpaid crybabies start respecting our country by STANDING for the National Anthem. I've attended a lot of NFL games in the past, but no more.

It isn't just NFL that has changed.

Stark contrast to the present, unfortunately. Thank you for sharing.

There are two ways of looking at this and neither of them includes disrespecting our flag, our country, or our law enforcement officers. First, these are pampered athletes who should get up every morning thanking God that they live in a country where they can earn more in a year than most people earn in a lifetime. As they walk out of their 10,000 square foot mansions and get into their Teslas, BMW’s, etc. they should be grateful that they have the sports ability to make them valuable as entertainment in this country.

However, once they clear their driveway they are in danger of getting killed just for being Black. We live in an era of the worst overt racial divisiveness since, I would say, the 1950’s. The beating and killing of unarmed Black men, women, and children, or at least the video capture of it, has increased dramatically. Sometimes, there is justification, but often not. And, unfortunately, most police officers are not indicted for their crimes, or if indicted, found not guilty by predominantly White juries.

These overpaid athletes, because of their notoriety, can make public statements protesting the institutional racism that infects our society. I deplore their disrespect of these symbols of our country. I wish there was another forum for them to voice their fear, anger and concerns. And, I’m a 75 year old White guy without any skin in this game, and I’m not a bleeding heart liberal. I’m just an observer of the human condition, and lately, if you’re a person of color, a Dreamer, or any other put upon minority, it truly sucks.

One of the reasons I no longer watch any pro sports. Advertisers are just throwing their money down a rat hole.

The Romans used to keep the "entertainment" in cages under the colusseum until it was time for them to perform. Why treat these overpaid babies like anything but hired entertainment? Why should they be allowed to participate in our moment of respect for our country if they cannot, or will not behave like citizens? The Romans would have them kept in the tunnels until ready for kickoff!

Nonsense. The problem we have now is a 24 hour news cycle with many outlets competing for viewers with increasing notoriety. True racial white on black violence is almost nil. "Racism" is an epithet thrown about with no reality, except in the minds of the people doing the accusations. I am so tired of everybody using "racism" and "racist" to end conversation. And "diversity" to mean only pigmentation rather than ideas.

Tom Brady flies to each game in his $50 million plane while his team uses a charter service. For that kind of money he is getting something is wrong with the sport. Just my opinion. /George

There are two ways of looking at this and neither ... (show quote)

I’ve seen discrimination . I’ve seen racism . I’ve seen policy brutality .
To suggest things are worse today is totally untrue . Since 1965 we have been on a path of self destruction by becoming progressively liberal , to the point where it was bordering on American self destruction . Self destruction of family , culture and respect for this great country . The ungrateful NFL players who voice their woes in public are fakers joining the call of Colon Kaepernick . A man who wore socks on the playing field depicting cops as pigs . A man who gave money to a family who supports their Mother in every way , a Mother who murdered a NJ State Trooper .
And you talk about Dreamers ? I’m a dreamer too . But one of my dearest dreams was taken away from me in 1993 due to quotas that impacted me because I’m White .
Leftists have set many Black Americans back 50 years by telling them they are victims .
In fact the entire progressive movement is based on the constant labeling of certain groups as “ victims “. It’s a great way to get votes for the Leftists who uses our Constitution as a doormat , the same way NFL players do today .
These aren’t men who have been beaten by racist cops or have been told to get to the back of the bus .
They’re ungreatful Leftists whose rhetoric poisons the minds of young people . The NFL by putting up with this nonsense is an institution that has turned into garbage .
Ask a member of AMVETS what they think of the NFL now . Read that story . That may give you a clue to how radical this entire league and it’s players have become . By all means read that story .
This will be the second Super Bowl I refuse to watch and the second season I have not watched professional football .
If I saw Kaepernick in the flesh I’d spit in his face . Believe me he would be getting off easy .
