Some months ago, members were very helpful when I requested information about a suitable flatbed scanner to scan 2 x 2 slides and black and white negatives. In response to those recommendations I bought an Epson Perfection V600 and it has produced excellent results on scanning both black and white negatives and transparencies.

However, I have had problems, possibly due to the fact that I’m operating on Windows 10 which is not mentioned in the user’s manual I have. Is there a new one?
The problems are-
1. The tabs on the front of the scanner-e.g. copy, email etc. do not work. They are not illuminated, and the computer keeps saying that the scanner is not recognized.
2. I have searched online for answers to “Problems with Windows 10” and tried to follow their recommendations. But when I do, either the screen that they recommend is not there, or else its drop-down menus are different from the ones that I have.
3. The printer works fine.
4. I continue to have problems with saving the images to a specific file-but perhaps that problem is mine not the computers. Again, any suggestions on how to simplify saving would be welcomed.

I would very much appreciate help with these problems.

I downloaded the file V600_EScan_3930_AM a few days ago. I have been scanning old B and W negatives.

Just tried the PDF button and up popped a windows that wants me to SCAN first then press FINISH after that. It produced a beautiful PDF of my picture and named it automatically from a previous scan. Worked great for me. I have Windows 10, also. You might want to re-install that software from Epson.

I'm seeking advice and help, please. I shoot with Nikon D800E and D850, a variety of lenses. I need to buy an extension tube or set that will give me closer focus without losing auto exposure or autofocus features of my lenses/cameras. I haven't found any yet. I'm hoping fellow Hoggers can help point me toward something that will work for me. If you have personal experience using the thing you are recommending, even more valuable advice.

Thanks for reading, and for your help, please.

Did you use Group Focus points and 1/4000 s shutter speed?

Were does the WiFi come from?
In some areas, it is provided to all by the local government, but in my neighborhood in comes to households by subscribing to Comcast {Xfinity} cable or to their WiFi service itself.

If you have Internet service, you go to WalMart and get a wifi router. Your computer or other devices connect wirelessly to the router. Then you run a network cable to the service providers MODEM.

I have Spectrum internet only. My TV is free because I put up a 5-element Yagi antenna outside the house. I do have Netflix and CBS All-access through the internet. My smart TV is wired to the modem through the network cable.

It's really easy to set up.

Last night I was surfing EBay and saw an auction of a refurbished Sony a7iii with a 28-70 2.8 lens up for bid from a dealer. I bid $1725.00 and am currently the highest bidder with only 6.5 hours left.

Never thinking that I would be highest bidder, this GAS attack now has me with several cameras...I want to keep my Nikon D7500 since it has been my go to camera for a few years and I have a full range of lenses for it.

I also have a Canon EOS m5 that is in excellent condition with three lenses: 15-45; 18-150;and 55-200. I use this camera for travel and really enjoy it, but now that I may be the winner of a Sony a7iii full frame, the Canon seems to be the one to go....

Here is the problem Adorama, KEH and B&H will take the Canon gear in trade for a pittance (literally pennies on the dollar)....Would like to make a bit of money on the Canon sale to offset a small portion of the price of the Sony...any suggestions for places to sell this gear?

TIA

I took a couple of pictures with it and they shown up as very small images in the upper left-hand corner of the monitor. By light-up I mean the monitor is filled with the image the camera is pointing at, then it will maintain that image for a few seconds after the picture is taken, then returns to the original target view. This D200's monitor does not display any image at all until after the picture is taken and then it will display the tiny picture in the upper left-hand corner and will go blank again.

Letmedance, I think you answered my question. You said the D200 does not have live view such as is on my D5600 and that is what I practically always use and I just assumed the D200 would be the same. So much for jumping to assumptions. Any ideas on how to have the image just taken appear full screen on the monitor rather than the tiny little picture?

Hi Uglyhedgehogs,
I read something posted here the other day about aspect ratios.
I have raw pictures (using my D750) from vacation and going to print a few that I particularly like. What I want to know is the best size print or aspect ratio (just learning).
The picture dimensions are 6016 x 4016.
Is that the aspect ratio of 6:4 (3:2)?
And if so, is an 12 x 10 (or any ratio as such) to print the photos?
Where is a recommended place to print photos of those ratios? Walgreens does not offer anything like it.
Thanks!
Hi Uglyhedgehogs, br I read something posted here ... (show quote)

The 3 x 2 ratio is the same as 12 x 8. MPIX is one lab that prints that size. Also, I believe Nations Photo Lab does that size as well.

Being somewhat new to photography I have a question. When it comes to taking photos how can you tell if a picture is under or overexposed? Isn’t a little subjective? I find the task of photo editing daunting because I’m not sure if I should change a picture or not. It really handcuffs me sometimes because I don’t want to ruin a photo.

Rod, I think it is slightly over-exposed. But just slightly. And over or under exposure really depends on how you feel about the image. In general, you never want to blow out important details. Some parts of the image can be blown out (no detail), and some part can be so black there is no detail. As long as they are not important parts of the image.

The reason I say it is a little over exposed because I think you more detail in the fur in the middle of the cat. As shown on my monitor, a little area has no detail. So I would have darkened the image a little, maybe half a stop or even a full stop.

But again, may I suggest that you go into your editing software and view the image with different exposure values. Start with it dark and then gradually lighten it up until you feel it is perfect. If the image imparts the feeling you want it to, then it is the perfect exposure for that image.

There is no absolutes here. Some responses from folks on UHH will tell you Expose To The Right on the Histogram. and that's fine for grabbing all the detail from the whites. On some photos, you will need to go into your editing software and reduce the exposure for you to get that FEELING that it is correct.

I used to think a good picture had good detail in the dark areas, good middle gray, and good light areas. That is not the case. You could have an image that is LOW KEY where most all of the image was dark, with a small amount of middle gray tones. So, in that case, Exposure To The Right (ETTR) would not provide the proper image.

Take your image of the cat and play with it in Photoshop or whatever editing software you have and see if darkening would provide a better mood to the image.

This may be a lot more response than you wanted, but again the bottom line is that You like the exposure you got. Don't worry about what other people think. If you think it's the proper exposure, that's all that matters.

And yes, it's a fine image as is, but I think it could be improved...

Ok I now own the bridge camera and looking over the web to see the images taken with it. So I came across some new to me eh terminology, where instead of the focal lenght the milimeter lenght is given eh. But the thing is that I dont see anywhere on my camera setting for such a focal lenght.

Example; 4.3mm huh? my lens goes from 28- 3000mm. How does one get to that wide angle (4.3mm)
thats some fishy eye eh?
I am sure someone here will have an reasonable explanation as this terminology might have someone else confused too.
Stay safe, fine folks and use rose coloured lens in mean time1

You have the Nikon P1000, which is one I also have. The 4.3mm is the actual focal length of the lens. But the 35mm equivalent field of view is 24mm- 3000mm. The sensor is VERY small. It is 1/2.3 inches.

I think the best value for the money is either a Godox brand or the Yongnuo brand.
The Godox TT685N looks to be pretty good for your camera. Do search Google for information and price.
Whichever brand you go with, make sure you get the radio transmitter for it so you can set the power level on the flash. You definitely want something that can do high-speed sync.

I have several of the Yongnuo brand, and have never had any trouble with them.

Good luck and stay safe.
