Yes, that would work. Though, Jasmine is too busy to do anything but carry her cell phone as a Pediatric Resident at one of LA County's larger medical centers (Harbor UCLA - one of UCLA Med School's teaching hospitals). And she says she will be able to afford whatever she wants when her career takes off. If she even wants to do photography as a hobby anymore by then. So I should just sell or trade for the RF gear I want as part of thinning the herd.

Totally off topic. But have daughter look at whitecoatinvestor.com. Critical financial information for docs. My son is a doc and it helped him a lot.

First of all, this is a forum. So, folks can express their opinions and of course, there are going to be differences of opinion. Other folks, reading on, can come to their own conclusions. No one has to agree with me I do not create laws or rules for others to impose my ideas on others.

If you read my previous post you notice I am not arguing for or against watermarks. I only mentioned hand-applied signatures and noted where and how I use them.

I am a full-time professional photographer and I am simply stating what I do- other professional photographers, advanced amateurs, and rookies may do things differently. That's OK!

Would buy an image with a watermark? I don't know- I was neveroffered one! If I lie the picture is enough- I might.

Watermars are for amateurs? Perhaps? I have no idea- I am not an amateur.

As I mentioned, if you are a pro and have skin in the game, then maybe. But a pro photog is an amateur when it come to legal matters. But I am not an amateur when it comes to litigation matters....I've been deposed more times than I can remember. And dealt with a many legal matters when I worked (not an attorney, but ran a very large operation that was legal-centric. I have my name in a rather well known Calif appellate case where my decision prevailed.) I did expert wit work as well.

The entire matter really is comical when people want to "sue." Unless it is a personal damage case where an attorney will take it with the hopes of winning a settlement and taking part of the settlement (usually 40%), then suing people comes out of your pocket. As in paying an attorney $500 an hour and up. Which is why depositions often take days...its not because of some hidden discovery needs...its billable hours. Go to mediation? Mediators often get $7500 a day paid equally by the plaintiff and defendant. If you need an expert witness, to the tune of $400 an hour, you pay for that as well. People think in terms of right/wrong or winning/losing. So taking some over saturated photo and having some small company use the thing without permission? Go to court? The only winners are the lawyers and the mediator. Unless you have very deep pockets and simply want to make a point.

Skip the notion of watermarks as protection, my opinion only.

Most of the puffing is about the name Brian Peterson gave it. Forget about the word "exposure" that everyone is hung up on. Call it anything you like, maybe just "Fred". The name is not important.

It's the concept that is important. The spreadsheet already covers everything.

There are actually six variables at play. Shutter speed(1) and aperture(2) define exposure value(3). Then we have filter factor(4) and ISO(5) defining light value(6). That's not a triangle, more like Chinese checkerboard.

The spreadsheet lets you make one of four of those (1, 2, 5, or 6) the final dependent variable.

If someone can't follow this, just leave the camera on Auto.

I guess I am stuck for life on auto (I shoot Aperture mostly and sometimes Manual but now I am not sure I'm doing things correctly.) The ISO, SS and Aperture work ok in my limited hard drive head. I do ok on occasion. Kinda like a guy playing golf who shoots par on a hole once in a while.

Watermarks are the mark of an amateur...amateur photographer and certainly what I used to call an armchair attorney. What is legal and what is a tort are mildly interesting. The issue is are you willing to litigate a complaint? How deep are your pockets? Ever deal with litigation costs? Unless this is your bread and butter business, move on to something else to worry about.

I absolutely could care less.
I take photos for fun and the math behind the photo is meaningless.
My concern is only the final result that I get with the camera.
All these tests people do means nothing to me and is quite boring.
My camera works great, if there is a shot I don't like then with the magic of digital I can see it immediately and make a change in setting or composition or whatever I want. NO math involved but a highly calibrated eye.

These tests mean nothing to me either. But, photography is a hobby for all but a few of us on this forum. Many of us are retired and pursue this hobby as we see fit for our own purposes. For some that means buying (and selling) a lot of gear, for others it is the art, for some it is travel, for some it is diving deep into Photoshop, for some it is minimalism and for some it means creating and understanding a spreadsheet on the exposure triangle. The mere pursuit of this data is interesting to some and is an intellectual exercise in of itself. It is no different than a crossword puzzle, writing poetry, or simply learning something new for the sake of learning. Boring to you (and irrelevant to me) is not boring to the OP and the posters on this topic. Perhaps look at things from their perspective.

The naming of the different flavors of Lightroom has generated a lot of confusion and continues to do so as people just call their version 'Lightroom' without letting us know which kind they're talking about. The system is broken. How can it be fixed?

I posted this in another thread but that thread seems to have ended so it's probably worth starting a new thread and not hijacking an old one.

What would be the best name for LR to reduce confusion?

Lightroom Cloud/Lightroom Local? (Lightroom Cloud would get confused with LrC)
Lightroom Here/Lightroom There? (Inaccurate)
Lightroom New/Lightroom Old? (Pejorative connotation)
Lightroom Classic/Lightroom Hip?
Lightroom/LightCloud?
Lightroom Swag/Lightroom Cheugy?

Or would it be better to find two completely different names, at least one of which does not contain 'Lightroom'?

Of course UHH will not make the final decision but hopefully some people at Adobe are watching.

Seems people cannot resist the temptation to hijack thread...what they use, who does what. Anyoo, I like your naming protocols..but add the mobile part of it.

Classic
Cloud
Mobile

Then you have names for them, "Classic" and "Photoshop".

I started playing with the included "Portfolio". Wanting to manage that from Classic, I learned to 'sync' some collections. That lead to learning a little about the cloudy one, which brought me to the mobile one on my phone.

Once the phone one is running right, anything I do with that shows up in Classic. That includes drone photos.

So, I have Classic, Cloudy and Phoney. The Webby one works but I don't use it.

The Webby was an award I used to give at roll calls....seriously...after my last name. But I like the classic, cloudy and phoney. Clever.

Yet another solution in search of a problem. And just what is it that confuses you about two (two?) flavors of the product?

If it were only one or two folks, then the problem would be with them. But it is somewhat widespread on this forum and a few others. So it is a nomenclature and branding problem. Kinda like the Ford Maverick...one is a car and one is a truck. Not smart. It might work for coke. But the full name of LR seems a bit off...like the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

It makes sense for everyone to understand and agree on a nomenclature so we can be more accurate and understandable when we communicate with each other.

I propose we invent a UHH convention to avoid confusion.

When the author (OP or reply) means the locally installed 'classic' software, just say "classic".

When the author (OP or reply) means the browser based software, just say "cloud".

And add "mobile" for using the mobile app of LR.

And add fubar for the rest

1- take the photos again so we can read the screen.
2- consider joining the Speedlight and Strobe Fundamentals Facebook group...there, Tim Payne and most everyone else use the Godox system. Post your problem there and you will get a knowledgeable response.

Just upgraded to LR Classic and would like to learn more about its features and improve my skills. I'll probably by Scott Kelby's Lightroom Classic Book. I have used his LR5 book for years and liked it. What other LR books would folks recommend?

I am not a fan of Kelby. His incessant goofy comments in his books, attempts at being humorous, are annoying and take up space and time.

Because LR is updated all the time, I avoid books because they cannot keep up with the newly introduced features of LR. I like Julieann Cost video tutorials. I like Terry Lee White. And the available free tutorials from Adobe are good as well. Ive only seen one Lightroom Queen post..it was detailed. MattK, does ok on editing but leaves out, intentionally, the whole instructional area of organizing photos...a very major part of LRC.

we have both ecobee and Nest. Nest is a bit easier to use. And now, nest has a thermostat with remote sensors so that you can set temps for other areas of the house rather than just where the thermostat is. We use the connectivity of all thermostats. A very handy feature.
