If it's a good price and you'd be saving a bunch over the newer lens, you may want to consider having the AF motor replaced, the 80-200mm is still a current production lens, I'd contact Nikon to see what that repair would cost, then compare the total of purchase price and repair cost to the cost of the new 70-200mm G2 and see if you'd still be saving money.

I just had my 70-200 f2.8 VR2 repaired by Nikon which included replacing the silent wave motor and the VR system for $495 (also replaced focus and zoom rubber rings. Since you don't have VR, I would assume your cost would be less.

consider renting a 16-35 f 2.8 if you don't expect to use it often. This will allow night sky photography and cover the wide angle landscape range.

I have made the “beast” comment before. Get the non VR version. It has great optics is smaller (77 vs 82 mm) filters, shorter and lighter.

I maintain my own custom/created named folders on my harddrive simply because I've always worked that way with photographs, documents, mail, downloads, etc. I also find it much easier to maintain backups using this approach.

Workflow for photos:
1) Create new folder on harddrive
2) Move/copy photos from memory card to new folder
3) Import photos to Lightroom
4) Pre/postprocess photos
4a) Maybe export preprocessed images to Photoshop for further postprocessing
5) Export final results to new folder/Upload subdirectory
6) Relax

Just my way of handling photographs...

All could be done in LR by importing directly into LR, relax early! But if it works for you, so be it.

I use Lightroom Classic for about 95% of my image pre/postprocessing. It does almost everything I'll ever to do with a RAW image. It does an excellent job of easily applying presets or custom changes to multiple images. I don't use it for image organization; I prefer custom name folders.

If I want to get fancy with images, i.e.: swap out the sky, add text, selectively modify areas of an image, etc., I'll export the preprocessed image(s) out of Lightroom to Photoshop and carry on from there.

I have no use for Light CC or PSE.

I don't understand your comment on "custom named folders" has a highly customizable folder naming and and hierarchy capability.

I have new Clients asking me on a regular basis what is the difference between Photoshop, Lightroom, and Elements. An Adobe expert back in 2012 gave me the answer:

"Photoshop is the whole shop. You can do anything in Photoshop. Lightroom is a room in the shop. Not everything is available. Elements are tools within the room. Do you want the whole shop, just one room in the shop, or just some elements from the room?"

Since I use all three, I discovered that he was right.

Actually, PS doesn’t have a catalog which is awesome in LR. LT handles 90% of what most photographers need and you can move to PS with 2 clicks. Ps has soo many tools that it is cumbersome unless you use it all the time. IMHO.

Try this for starters. Auto color balance or fluorescent with green filter on flash
Flash set to TTL
Put the diffuser on the flash and angle it up 45 degrees.
Camera on manual
Shutter 1/125 or 1/60 if you are steady arperture f4 - f5.6 unless you need more depth of field
Set ISO so you get enough ambient light so background is exposed maybe -1 EV

Get there early and experiment.

My wife was born and raised in Lima, Peru. We're planning a trip there in November 2019. This will be my first time in country. She is adamant that I do not bring my Canon 6DII along. She's sure my camera gear will be a target for thieves. What have other readers of this thread experienced?

If you have a lot of Nikon gear, look into Nikon Professional Services; you get priority on repairs.

Right angle to the sun. Looking through the viewfinder without sunglasses on is the only way I know how to do this.

If you maintain a constant angle to the sun as you raise the camera, he is absolutely correct.

I like it a lot! My one comment for improvement would be to tone down the highlight to the left of the subject. It is the brightest highlight in the image and keeps pulling my eye away.
