My outing this morning was successful, I found this 2 Owls, just as I walked underneath a tree they were starting to hoot. They started to groom each other, it was just amazing.
Have fun with your new setup! Post some pics when you can!

Hi
I have just purchased the D810 this week (have been hankering after it for a while) so it has only just come out of the box. I did purchase with it the 3.5-5.6 70-300mm just to get me started so to speak on the FX lens range. Whilst I was purchasing it the chap standing next to me purchased the 400mm version as he had tried it out already and was delighted with it, it was a little out of my budget area so went for the 300mm and the 24-70 f2.8 (sigma). I love the fast lenses but one can only spend so much in one go so I had to be satisfied for now with my purchase. I have taken a few practice shots and they look OK in camera, will let you know when I finally get to upload them to the Mac.
Can anyone give me some advice on if I can swap and use the FX lenses on a DX and visa versa as I have quite a few for the D300 DX and, as mentioned, it will take time to acquire the F2.8s over time.
Hi br br I have just purchased the D810 this week... (show quote)
Thinking of getting this lens while Nikon still has the rebates on lenses. Anyone want to share their experience, pros/cons of this lens. Will be used on both DX & FX formats for birds and wildlife. TC recommendations/experiences?
Thanks for the info. Great shot! Nice setup you have.

There is a causeway going west out of Guntersville with a short section of bridge with a sidewalk. The Loons feed there when the water is moving and have gotten used to the fishermen that fish there too. I was on the bridge with a Nikon D810 on a Nikon 600 mm VR plus the TC14E III teleconverter. Do not have to crop much with that system. I have a friend with similar Canon system that shoots them from a kayak and gets fantastic shots.
Honestly, I haven't had a problem with it. It's for shelled peanuts which lots of birds really like. Sometime when it snows it will collect a bit of snow but the birds just ignore that and peck away at the peanuts.
