A different perspective about online ordering during the "lockdown". We are 15 miles from town, even when things were open the only two options were the grocery store and the hardware store, and a Dollar General and a Family Dollar. If we want to do any kind of "major shopping" the nearest is about 65 miles away, the next closest is over 70, with more variety and the next is about 100 miles away. In all cases, the closest is more than an hour away, as in all cases it takes about a half an hour to get to the highway to get to any of them. None of these towns ahs any kind of a brick and mortar photo store except the one that is over 100 miles away. So for us, online for certain items becomes a necessity. We try to patronize the local shops as much as possible, but they are still struggling. As far as staying home, things haven't changed for us, it's just another day in the high country. I'm not looking for comments or criticisms, just my take on things. Oh, by the way, we are both knocking on the front door of 75.

We are on SS also. I don't understand what all the hullaboo is about. We are on direct deposit and everything showed up on time with no problems.

Thanks to all the Hoggers that supplied directions, it was most helpful. I have been able to at least find a direction and further research is needed. Between that and what I have been able to glean from Lynda.com, I am well on my way. I look forward to see what else folks come up with. Again, Thanks, be safe and stay well.

I'm one of those who would not go back to a Windows machine, my preference. Yes, the pricing is there, all you have to do is pick one, and then click on "Buy", don't worry. Now you can see the base price of the machine and then make modifications, RAM, size and type of drive, which video card, processor speed, etc. It will give you a running total. I really like the iMac Pro, fully tricked out will empty your pockets to the tune of just over $14,000. If you really want to spend the bucks, there is the Mac Pro, last time I looked at it specked out was around ope $50,000, way more money and machine than I need. Having said that, I now have a 13" Macbook Air with 8 Gb RAM and a 500Gb SSD. I run Photoshop, Lightroom and Adobe bridge, with several other programs open, but minimized. No problems. When I'm not doing that I can run Final Cut Pro X with no problems and I also use Audacity for audio editing. The only problem I can see you have is if you have some other programs that are Windows-specific the won't run on the Mac unless you run them in a virtual mode.
Lots of luck with what ever way you decide to go.

I've had great luck with a vinyl "table cloth", used for picnic tables, really cheap at Dollar General, etc. and a cheap embroidery hoop, same source. It's kind of overkill with the amount, but can be used for other things around the "studio".

It's time to find a new printer. I'm leaning towards either a Canon Pixma Pro 10 or 100. I have not looked at the Epson series of photo printers. Just looking for opinions, thoughts, etc.
Thanks in advanced

I have a 13" MacBook Air running Catalina and a CanonT6i. After installing a couple of updates, I was no longer able to use Canon's tethering software. After the last update, things are back to working as they should be. I throw this out for general information.

How are you cataloging your images? I've got the Adobe products through the subscription service. LR does a great job, but I find it cumbersome and half the time still can't find what I'm looking for. I shoot a lot but not thousands on a yearly basis. Any thoughts and ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Like you I currently use Final Cut Pro X and have used an old pirated copy of Premier (6 or 7?). Any of the supplied video editors work great and are free.

Yes, I remember the days when Kodak would come into town and setup one of their multi-format presentations. This was in the late 70's. I once did a two projector setup using a Wollensak controller. Even re-created the presentation in final cut, along with the original music. Sure was a lot easier.

I ask the question because there were 2 posts asking how to transfer 8mm and Super 8 movies into video. I am thinking that if we use a digital still camera and copy the film frame by frame and then assemble them into a video. In that way I think the quality is very high. I do understand that copying the movies is extremely time consuming but I wonder there is a good software to assemble them into video? I do realize that these movies are generally 18fps and the video are 30fps so there has to be some duplicate frames.
I ask the question because there were 2 posts aski... (show quote)

A note. I can't speak to 8mm as I did most of my work with 16mm in the mid-60's to early 70's. 16mm was at 24 fps ( sound speed), and there are 40 frames per foot. From that I would assume about twice that for 8mm. Lots of work involved. You might take a look at just8mm.com they seem to have a reasonably priced service. I have no idea what the quality would be. Good luck

Just something to think about. 16mm film is 40 frames per foot, I assume that 8mm/super8 would be about twice that (more or less). To use you DSLR to copy each frame would be prohibitive mainly in the amount of time it would take. My experience with a projector and camera has been disastrous. Keep experimenting and if you come up with something I would be interested in hearing about it.
Good luck,
Mike

Here's the latest, I selected a group of photos to move to a collection. For some reason only one got moved, I went back to select the rest for import but they are all grayed out. I know that there is a way to "ungray" them but damned if I can find it. Once again I would appreciate any help you might be willing to offer. Meanwhile I will go to the above link and see what happens.
Once again thanks :)

Thanks for the help!! There are times when one has to step back and take a deep breath, sleep on it and have a cup of coffee, and some times it's an "oh duh"moment.
Namaste :)
