I'm just curious as to how many of you out there are waiting for the release of the new Nikon D7100 and what are your thoughts on it? Did you purchase the D7000 and have any problems with focusing? Do you think the new release will have any surprises or problems? Did you wait for this one and will you purchase right away or wait well into production for them to get rid of any potential inborn quirks?

Staying with my D7000 for now - pioneers are those who get arrows in their backs.

Have had one iteration of this lens for quite some time. It is one of Nikons better lenses. Reviewers say that it is just about as sharp as the f2.8 at far less money which I haven't had the opportunity to try. The lens has a crisp focus. But the lens is a bit on the heavy side.

I have this lens, plus a 1.4X TC, and find it to be very usable, but there is a learning curve on how to make it perform at its best. I shoot BIF handheld, so it's not too heavy for that use, at least for me. I also use a gimbal mount.

I just tried to order something from B&H. Their site told me they don't accept online orders till 7PM on Saturday. I understand the reason: they are Jewish and observing their Sabboth. While I agree that in the U.S. they are welcome to do so I am also welcome to not have them impose their religious beliefs on me. So I'll never try to order from them again.

What an absolutely inane post. And BTW, it's Sabbath and burqa. What do we care who you order from? I have, and will continue to use B & H as my primary provider.

The Carnton Plantationis a beautifully restored plantation house in Franklin TN. It was a hospital during the civil war and still has blood stains on the floors that will not come out. It also has a cemetary where there are buried soldiers from all over the south.

Beautiful shots of Carnton - I live about a mile from it and visit the McGavock Confederate Cemetery there often. Here's a picture from the cemetery.

My husbands cousin was looking at my picture on a social network site and asked me what camera I use so I told her what it is and her responce was "Nice!! Takes good pictures. I might just need a nikon instead if cannon" I don't know how to respond to it. I don't want to be mean or sound mean, ughhh. How should I respond?

Nicely tell her that it's not the arrow, it's the indian.

I'm a believer that it is important to hold the camera before purchasing. How it feels in the hands is very important. Regardless of quality if it doesn't feel good/right most likely it won't be used as often. Question: where in the heck can one go (besides New York City) to hold all of the cameras recommended when someone asks "what camera to buy?" No where that I know of in Tenn.

what about drurys in nashville, tn ?

Interesting,thanks for post.

Thanks for looking. As you probably know, this relates to the Civil War is the US. The Battle of Franklin (just south of Nashville) was on 30 Nov 1864 during the bitterest winter on record as of that time.

Went here about 3 years ago and took a tour of the house. The cemetary was very fascinating. Most people won't realize that the back of the house is what is showing in the photo. It was a fascinating place to visit. There were still blood stains on the some of the floors where the house had been used as a hospital. Thanks for bringing back the memories.

Glad you enjoyed your visit - Franklin is a very nice and historic place to visit. Please come back.

I was taking a picture of some of the gravestones in this cemetery yesterday and shot this picture.

FYI - After the Nov. 30, 1864 Battle of Franklin, where there were over 8,000 casualties, Confederate soldiers were buried nearby, arranged in plots according to the states from which the soldiers came. As winter wore on, many of the headboards were fading or were used for firewood by the poor. Seeing the great need, Col. John McGavock donated two acres of land adjoining the family graveyard, to be used for a final resting place for the soldiers. Again, each soldier was laid to rest by state and each known name was registered in the Book of the Dead by Col. McGavock's wife, Caroline Winder McGavock.

The family mansion is in the picture.

Thanks for the kind comment. It's easier to take a good photo when you have a willing subject, isn't it?

I don't want to say your shot is pin sharp but it's pretty good, however one reason for it looking UNsharp is caused by Chromatic aberration, have a really close look at the bird on the top left and around the neck and head, on top there is a Purple fringing and below there is a Cyan fringing. This not so notisable centre image but it is there.
This is the fault of the Lens, you can eliminate the Purple and Cyan which will help sharpen up the image ( In Photoshop or other software )
Google 'Chromatic aberration' for an explaination of this, The better the lense the better it handles the colour wave lengths.
So don't beat yourself up blame it on the lense :-}

Thanks for the encouragement, GeoffHD. I knew that I was pushing the lens to the limit and I'm planning to add the Nikon 300mm f/4 to my arsenal as soon as I can afford it.
