and not a single F... bomb in the whole thing. They got their point of view across in a way that was well understood.

Not sure what type of photography you are doing. I had the 70-300 Nikon lens and although it was a fairly good lens, I decided that for a greater range of possibilities, I traded it in for the 18-300 that is on my camera (D7000) all the time. I do have a 70-200 F/2.8 as well which I why I went to the 18-300. Like I said I am not sure your goal with your lens, but if you want a great walk around lens that covers a greater range, I would suggest the 18-300 Nikon for an all around lens. Not what you asked, but just wanted to make a suggestion for a wider range if you are interested and want to stay in the F/3.5 - 5.6 range.

As a diver who has the opportunity to dive in many different ecosystems around the world, I really enjoyed this video. Thanks for the posting. The future will hold many changes as the oceans retake what once was theirs.

Seems I have learned more since I retired than I ever learned in school (both while attending and even teaching for 15 years). I have learned a lot from other UHHers as well. Thank You to everyone who posts this fantastic info. This includes the historic as well as the awesome photography info I learn from all the time.

The photos reminded me of photos I researched prior to my trip to Bikini Atoll. Now Bikini Atoll took place after the war, but the 246 Navy ships (both US and Japanese) that were anchored there as targets of the Atomic Bomb testing during Operation Crossroads was pretty impressive as well. In 2005 I spent a week diving the wrecks on the bottom of Bikini Atoll. From the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga, CV3, the Japanese battleship Nagato, the USS Anderson, and several others that I had the opportunity to dive and photograph underwater while there, to the Japanese shipwrecks sitting on the bottom of Truk Lagoon that were sunk during Operation Hailstone Feb 17-18, 1944 that I dove and photographed during my 10 day dive expedition in 2013, I have had the opportunity to see and learn about some of this history in a way I never imagined while in school way back at the beginning of the 60's. I was in the US Navy from 66-69, and spent 18 months at the Sub base in Conn. as well, and I have learned more about the Navy since I got out than I did while in the Navy.

I checked it out and say Thanks. I have several of Scotts books, but always am looking for more info. Most of my work though is underwater, but I still like wildlife and outdoor photography as well. Any tip that i can get on anything I appreciate.

I spent 18 days there with 16 days of diving (52 dives). The first 10 days were at Kasawari Lembeh Resort (29 dives) AWESOME!!! Then we went over to the other side of North Sulawesi Island to Minahasa Lagoon Resort (23 Dives) for 8 days. Kasawari is in the Lembeh Straight and every dive was amazing. Minahasa had some muck diving, some coral reef type diving and some wall diving over on Bunakah Island where we went every other day. The Lembeh Straight had the most amazing critters and the Kasawari guides were awesome. I had a 60 mm lens with a diopter and my 105 mm lens. Prefer the 105, but the 60 with the diopter worked for the larger and tiny tiny critters, but with the diopter the DOF was very small, so sometimes it was hard to find the critter and then stay focused if there was current. I would love to go back, but think this may have been a one and done trip as my wife is a non diver and did not go with me. I went with my dive buddy. My wife wants to see other places and that is what we will be doing when we leave for Australia in Jan and cruise to Singapore, then back to Bali, return to Singapore and then come home. Living on a fixed income, that drains the funds for another trip to Lembeh (at least for now)

I taught High School Field Biology for 15 years. In the unit on Ornithology I used to have my students build 5 different paper airplanes with different wing shapes and from different weight materials. I would supply suggested airplanes or they could use their own design. They would then measure the wings length and width and weigh them. We would then calculate wing aspect ratios and wing loads (they all knew they could not do physics which is why they took my elective class. I never told them that was exactly what they were doing) Then we would go outside and fly them for distance and flight patterns, and then compare them to actual bird wing shapes and wing loads. Then would then write up their results and compare them with their classmates results. There is actually nothing wrong, in my opinion, of having fun getting an education. Many took to making their designs as well and then tried to find birds with the same shapes and wing loads. When the unit was over they had a much better understanding of birds in flight. I would then ask them if they ever noticed geese in the V-formation flight and if they could explain why one side was longer than the other. Many different answers would be discussed. That was when I would tell them it was because there were more birds on one side than the other :-) A little humor would keep my students focused as well.

1st photo is of christmas tree worms. You can find them in all sorts of colors and disappear in a heartbeat when they feel threatened. They are filter feeders.

One of the neatest things for me was having the honor of reenlisitng my brother.

When I enlisted in the Navy, the Officer in charge of swearing me in was an Air Force Lt. Col., and the witness was an Air Force Staff Sgt. The best part those two were my father and my older brother. Photo made the Anchorage Alaska Newspaper as that is where it all began for me.
