Hey, you ever thought about just buying a point & shoot for walking around.
I bought a Sony DSC-HX9V, Voted best point & shoot camera of the year.
This camera does everything. Check one out at the /Sony Store/ if you have one in your area. Take your own SD Card, take some shots, have a print made and you will not believe the quality. I have made mangy 11x14's, no problem.
Does 3-D, SWEEP PANORAMIC (AUTO) , HDR, HD 1080/50i, MOVIES WITH STEREO AUDIO,(You will not believe It), MACRO and a bunch more. Lens is very sharp (24-384mm), CMOS. I bought a Hood Man Loupe and use this to view the 3" LCD, that way I can view in daylight with no problem. Believe me this is it. This is a fun camera. BV

Remember, this Canon lens is not their high-end "L" lens.
I talked to B&H Photo yesterday and asked their Pro Dept. and they said that this Canon 10-22mm Lens, was garbage.
I could not believe that they said that. BV

Here is what I am thinking of doing. Have been a Professional Photographer for the past 40 years, mostly Weddings. I have lots of equipment and am considering downsizing. Selling everything and buying a LEICA V-LUX 3 MP CAMERA. POINT & SHOOT, 12mg, Electronic Viewfinder, 24 Optical Zoom(24-600mm). CMOS-POP UP FLASH-ISO 6400 PLUS HD 1080p 60 fps MOVIES with Stereo sound. WOW What more do we need unless you do professional work. Check out the reviews. Sells for about $950 but they say the Panasonic Lumix FZ150 is the same camera for $489 @ Amazon.
Just a crazy thought but don't take me serious OR maybe you should. LOL

Try doing this with your 50mm 1.4 lens.
Use a Tripod
Set it Aperture @ f.8
Set it to spot metering.
Put it on Manual Focus.
Focus on the front eye.
ISO 200
Make sure Shutter is no less than 1/125sec. If not adjust Aperture so it is.
Shoot
If you don't get a sharp image, there is something wrong with the camera or lens. BV

Whatever you do, get the 18-135 kit lens instead. You won't regent it. BV

Diannarucker: As for using flash on weddings, with the Nikon, this is how I have used it. Set Menu in camera to Flash, Slowest Shutter Speed of 1/30 sec.
Set camera on Program, Auto White Balance, Auto ISO, Flash on TTL and have fun. If you see exposure is over or under to your liking, then adjust the over/under compensation on Camera or Flash or both. I usually shoot Jpeg, since I send all my brides chosen images to a Pro Lab, for Album assembly and they color correct. They do not accept RAW. Hope this is helpful. BV

Diannarucker: Sorry II means Roman Numeral Two. The lens I am referring to is the new TAMRON 18-270 F/3.5-6.3Di II. 62mm Filter size. It is smaller and has no lens creep.

When I used to shoot weddings with a Hasselblad (film days), I used 3 lenses, 50mm (30mm digital), 60mm (36mm digital), 150mm (90mm digital). Did not need anything else. Customers were happy, no complaints. These were all fixed lenses. Today with all the zooms available, what a difference. When I went digital, I switched to a Tamron zoom (18-270mm). This gives you a 27mm to 405mm (Nikon) or 29mm to 432mm (Canon). No changing lenses. What a pleasure. Don't worry about f2.8, just use flash and you'll get sharper images and the customer is happy, which is what you want. Use tripod when you need inside church shots where flash is not accepted. End of story. BV

You may look into a Nikon P7100. It has a viewfinder and zoom lens (27-200mm). Sell for under $400 or you can get last years closeout for $229, This one is called the Nikon P7000. I had one and loved it. Made enlargements up to 16x20, no problem. BV

If you are using it for portraits only, just get the 85mm f1.8, for about $350.
That's all you need and if you need a zoom, then get the new Tamron 17-270mm Type II lens. I have one and use it for weddings and it is a great all around zoom. You can also use this for portraits. BV

You can't go wrong. Have 5 owners in our club meeting that say the same. If you get the new one, which is marked 11 (2), you get no creep. Have shot many weddings with it and no complaints. BV

I do professional weddings, have been for over 50years. Had Hasselblad in film days. I just retired and my last outfit was, Nikon D300, primary lens was a Tamron 18-200mm, Fisheye and a 70-200mm 2.8. Now since retired I upgraded to the new Tamron 18-270mm 2 Lens. This lens is fantastic. You could actually do the whole wedding with just this lens. For most situations, I shoot on Program when using SB Flash, and set your Flash shutter speed to a slow 1/30sec. Believe me it works. I also use jpeg only, since I send all my files that the customer wants to a Professional Lab and they do the work for me. I do not like Post anything when working in quantity. My average wedding includes in excess of 1000 images. Too much to play with after the fact.
David Ziser, a well know Professional wedding photographer uses the same system. I learned from him at one of his seminars. BV
