...seeing that this thread is continuing, here's a recent shot at the Huntington Beach pier. I was gonna leave the blue board color, but this treatment just seemed right...believe me, I have a ton of these!

Thanks to all who commented on The Shooter (Karin,Trainsbuff,Photogirl,Joe,Julie,Sakitson,Pat and Mr. Cookie, heh) here are a couple more from my archives: Once upon a time, there was a *real* Goodyear blimp...the first taken at the airfield off the 405 in Carson, CA., and the second taken at another time when I was on the freeway and spotted it getting ready to land, I was in a panic, turned onto another freeway...and there it was looking for all accounts like it was, haha, crashing, when, actually, it was landing. Please don't think badly of me, I was going maybe 80 mph, drove with my knees (perfectly safe!) and got that shot! It's the scout helo pilot in me, folks... ;0)

I took my first pic in the fall of 1949, a black and white shot using a Chicago-made Sparta 620 camera with "I" for Instant (1/100) and "T" for Time (shutter open as long as release button held). On top of this little $9.95 jewel, it had a built-in opening for a Press #40 flashbulb. Quite often, as I was inserting the bulb, it ignited with my fingers on it. Exciting times. I taught myself photography using photo magazines. There were several of them back then. I turned professional in 1976 and I am retired now. Black and white is a favorite still.

That's very nice, Brent...so, how did that boat get up there? Haha, is it the train company providing ambiance to the inside window passengers?

Thank you for all your info.

...it's another thing to remember to check, but it enhances your product, no doubt. I used to forget that setting alot, in time, though, it's *almost* a part of my itinerary, lol...

Thanks for the info. Looking for the limiter to speed up focusing on the D4 and D500. I usually have it set to full for sports with a telephoto lens. Are you saying 5m and say I am shooting at 350mm with my 200-500 or 80-400 4.5-5.6 lens is best. Which way to go in your opinion?

Thanks, Jules

In general, yes. It just stands to reason; if you're at "full" the focusing system has to work harder, or, at least, *travel* more alot of the time. <shrug> I got that from a sports shooting podcast long ago, but there are times when I want the "full" setting, and, in fact, forgot I've changed it, but after awhile notice the difference! Pretty subtle if you're not shooting consistently, as I pretty much have to do in the pageantry realm where I try to get all the performers in 7.5 minutes, lol...if it's a large group it's impossible but fun to try...

Hi Thomas: No all my lenses are Nikon. I bought a new 50mm 1.8 af-s so it works fine on the D4. I am going to stick with the lenses I have for now. Haven't had an income for a year so I will dance with who I brought to the ball. Thanks as always for your comments.
I have a limiter set to full for soccer and generally all sports that I use a tele for.

Jules, shooting on the 5m setting for the limiter speeds up the focus...of course you have to not require getting in tight, but when they're across the field it's an advantage. But, yes, it can cause problems if you forget where your set at...lol...

I am a new subscriber to both Adobe Lightroom and the full Photoshop (they came bundled for $9.99 a month with Lightroom by itself going for the same price) and I have a newbie's question. When you edit a photograph, where is the photo stored? I'm not much for using the cloud to store anything and I would like to find the edited photo on my laptop which is then double backed-up to external hard drives. Upgrading from Photoshop Elements 2021. Thanks for your time.

I'm going to address your question as written: "When you edit a photograph, where is the photo stored?"

When you get done editing you have to deal with the export dialogue (Ctrl_Shift_E is the keyboard shortcut). The very top box in the export dialogue is "Export Location," that is where you tell LR where to put the finished image. Click the "Choose" box and find where you want to store the image. That's it. There are other choices to check or uncheck in that box and you should familiarize yourself with them. I for one don't use them much, but there is a checkbox for "existing files" where you direct LR on what to do with overwrites, here I stipulate "ask what to do" as a safety. Go through the entire export dialogue, it's quite extensive, at the bottom there's an After Export choice, I keep it simple by stipulating "do nothing." Like someone said, you need to *learn* LR rather than expect it to be intuitive in all respects. Hope this helps.

For lack of a better description they appear to be herding the fish and then dive together.

...it's called group feeding and the white pelicans do it alot. They don't dive from the air like the browns, they "herd" groups of fishies and, er, *then* dive in, lol. I'm no expert, but found a group like this at the Bolsa Chica Wetlands out here, did some googling and caught a fact or three!

I'm in the process of getting mine up and running using Wix. So far, so good, and the price is not exhorbitant. I had a friend set it up for me ('cuz I feel much better creating content then doing THAT...) with the promise of a share in the venture. If you PM me I'll share it with you so you can see how it works, when it's done it'll be on my sig line along with the Smugmug site. ;0)
