That's the problem. Too many questions! :D

As soon as I learned the answers to the questions, they changed the questions

I will be traveling for 3 weeks on a vacation and need advise on a new camera bag. I would like one that is fairly light, can hold my sony with a 24 70 lens, a telephoto lense, camera accessories, wallet and personal items, possibly a laptop, and tripod. Having one that converts to a day pack would be great. I have one that is too cumbersom. I would like it to look less like a camera bag for security. I am a woman 5 ft 6. and on the slim side. Headin for to Alaska, waterproof would help.

Your question will open up tons of advice, as there are tons of different camera bags to choose from, depending on intended use. I suggest you search B&H or Adorama websites and check out their camera bag inventory. Beware, that will occupy more than a few minutes, but you can get a real education on camera bags this way. By the way, there is no such thing as the perfect all-purpose camera bag. I have ten bags and sometimes wish I had just one more. :)

Sounds like a great trip forthcoming. Show us some pics upon returning.

Here is a link to possible options that I use. You can get all levels of features (with all levels of price obviously). Options have a SD slot and others require a card reader?

One benefit to a more expensive version might be a screen that allows you to see the photos after they are copied.

Suggestions:

1- practice this workflow at home before your trip, including copying images from the portable drive back to your pc.

2- your sd cards should be out of the camera when traveling so a stolen camera doesn't mean lost images as well.

Many years ago I lost one half of the families Disney World vacation photos due to a stolen camera (Air travel). Had the memory card in the camera :o(

Good luck - sounds like a great trip.

 I also have the Picture Porter 35 and have used it on two vacation trips. Let's me leave the laptop or other external devices at home. The Porter 35 allows picture viewing and has a sort (file) capability. Also stores video.

Not quite the case. I had one, I didn't think it safe, therefore I don't have one now. I found they can unscrew quite easily, Canon doesn't guarantee that using the tripod mount for a carrying strap is safe, therefore I got rid of it. I now use an Op-Tech harness, which for me is perfect. And I can't lose the camera "by accident", because the Op-Tech does not unscrew itself from your camera.

That sounds logical to me. Also, I value inputs from MTShooter, who is in a position to know.

Cute...cute..cute...

Love my morning coffee and reading the forum. By the way, I am new on here and I read a lot about taking raw pictures. Exactly what is that, how do you go about taking these types of pictures, and the advantage of raw vs regular pictures. Sorry I am a newbe on my camera, so learning a lot from all of the professionals on here.
Thanks again for all your help in the past and present.

Also, would be better to post your question on the Main Photography forum. This is the general chit-chat forum.

If anybody comes at you with a knife that will cut that thing, just give them the camera and wish them a nice day!

Did you notice that a film camera was used in the strap pic?

Crocodile Dundee certainly had a knife that could cut it swiftly. :-)

Looks like this one is attached to the tripod thread. That method created quite a debate in a recent post. Seemed that the opinions were evenly divided on whether it was/is a good way to attach camera to strap.

Thanks

Recently, there has been posts on types of camera straps and what ones are best, etc.

I don't remember any mention of "thug-proof" straps that would have a steel thread in them to prevent the cut and run theft.

Is there such a thing? I know that such security construction is available in women's handbags, some luggage, and fanny packs.

I see no new cameras in my future. Really!

Famous last words, at least for me. Bought a Canon 20D in 2006; told wife I would never need another DSLR. After all, who needs more than 8 megapixels? Fast forward to summer 2013: must get into FF and higher megapixels; thus, purchased 6D and the 17-40 L series lends. Now, trying to justify that Tamron 150-600 :-)

One of the primary axioms of Economics 101: human wants and services are never satisfied. :-D

I should have noticed that the scene did not fit the Himalayas, but I was so absorbed with the video. Watching the video made me afraid I was going over  .

Hummm....I'm going with you are a Troll AND a Moron............I saw those buildings fall in real time and on video.....sure did not see what you claim to have seen. But then you've let your brain form a thought process that verifies your beliefs in this and totally ignored common sense and facts. Your touting this as a fact is in direct lack of respect to those who died and to their survivors...despicable behavior for which you should be ashamed....but I doubt you are capable of shame.

Also, the local Washington news media interviewed several eye witnesses who claimed to have watched the plane hit the Pentagon. Of course the "non-believers" will say the witnesses were planted. I won't go into details here, but I lost two close co-workers that day.

Just in case some have not seen this. Gives a new meaning to the term "white knuckle ride". Don't worry about the htl title; it's only about 3 min long. Great photo opportunity. Gotta love the Brits' sense of humor, or where they smoking something?
