If you have a smart phone there are apps available to create tracks. No need to buy extra gear.

There are a bunch of them I see. Does anyone have tested experience using one in conjunction with Lightroom?? If so, what is the name of the App.

This does open another problem though. I do take pictures with my Galaxy 5 and import them into lightroom. When I look at the Map section, some are 100s of miles from where they were taken. So currently, I enter coordinates manually after a shoot. It just takes a few secs even with multiple locations.

However, I can see the use of geotagging if you are hiking (however, I just take a guess, do I really need to know what tree I am next too??) or more importantly, a trip where you are doing multiple stops per day over the course of a week or so (is. the bucket trip to Hawaii or Europe, etc). In this case I can see the value of geotagging so if anyone has an App they use with Lightroom, I would appreciate the name.

The expodisc has peaked my interest in that it can provide an accurate custom WB plus measure incident light. Since I am in a GAS phase, this item seems very useful at a reasonable cost.

First question, the expodisc 2 only comes in two larger sizes now, is it any better than the original?? (comes with warming filters which I can dial in myself and a better lens fit they say)

2nd question - I have three lens, two 62 mm and one 52 mm. I can't seem to find any older 62 mm expodisc's so I guess I have to get a larger one like the 77mm. My worries with this one is having to take the lens hood off each time I want to use it. For those of you who use an expodisc, do you find this a hassle?? Should I wait till they put out some smaller ones so I don't have to remove the hood??

I have a related question for the Hogs. If you really need a burst of shots, why not shoot a video?? What is going on with 1080p at 30 fps (what the D7100 shoots). How does that quality compare with a photograph?? Since you can use frames from a video, why not use it for bursts?? I rarely shoot video so the thought just came to me and what better place to ask then here!!

I am now looking at the lack of Buffer thanks

I just got the D7100. I tested it with the Sandisc Extreme PRO vs an older "high speed" Promaster SD card I had. The faster card definitely helps. If you are shooting RAW at 14 bits, you can get 6 shots at 6 fps (9 at 12 bits). After that it will bog down due to the buffer size. At this stage, the sandisc SD card dumps much faster than the promaster (but both slower than 6 fps). What I do if I want more than 6 fps is to switch over to jpeg. The manual will tell you how many shots the buffer will hold at each jpeg setting. With a small basic jpeg, you can fire away as needed for long bursts. If you need to shoot in RAW all the time and need large bursts, you probably got the wrong camera.

I like both Sigma and Tamron lens. I have both and depending on the lens, I like one over the other. In this case, I think the fair comparison is the current Tamron version with the yet to be released Sigma C version. For myself, I am awaiting that release and the mass of comparisons on the two lens that will follow on all the various websites I look at before I make a purchase.

I also have David Busch's duo. I just finished the full version and I have the field guide in my camera bag. They are both excellent.

I have already posted that I was thrilled to finally get my Nikon D7100 w/ a Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 lens.
So, I would love to know if you treated yourself to a new camera or lens that you have been wanting. And, why did you want it?

Santa was good to me this year. Nikon D7100 (plus two books on how to use it), Nikkor 35 mm f/1.8 prime lens, and a LowePro flipside 500 backpack to haul everything around. I wanted the new camera because I have been using the D3100 for many years now and found I wanted many of the features the D7100 has. The prime lens was to give me a lens good in low light. The backpack to fit all my new and old goodies.

With the help of many Hogs, Santa listened! D7100 plus, my one and only (for now) lens, also chosen with a lot of Hog-help: Sigma 17-50mm, f/2.8. With my owner's manual and another gift, "Understanding Exposure", Bryan Peterson (guess from where that recommendation came) I will be very busy. I am quite overwhelmed at this point. Arlene

Hi Arlene!! I also just opened a D7100 for Christmas. I moved up from a D3100 and yes the new camera can be quite overwhelming. I recommend David Busch's book on learning the D7100 plus the field guide for in your camera bag (the field guide is a half an inch thick!!!). I am already on page 350 of the book and it has really helped me understand all the settings in a clear manner in contrast to the manual. Have fun with it, I know I am.

Just pushed the button to order my new Nikon D7100.......very excited!

Should have it in two days.

I just opened mine on Christmas. You are going to love it. I am already on page 240 of David Busch's manual. The difference between the d7100 and by old d3100 is quite a bit.

I have always found the Auto ISO settings to be a pain in the neck so I disabled them years ago on my D3100. It was the first thing I disabled on my new D7100.

I just moved up from Nikon D3100 to a D7100. I went through the same pain you are going through with the DX vs. FX. Ultimately I am not a Pro and I didn't want to spend the money needed to get quality FX lens. The D7100 is an amazing camera, I love it and I will be learning it for a while yet. It is a HUGE upgrade from the D3100 (and I'm sure the D3200). Having all the functions available on various buttons around the camera vs going into the menu to make changes is awesome. The ability to focus in low light is far superior to the D3100. Having a commander function for off camera TTL flash is really nice. It is the best FX camera out there in my humble opinion. I waited over 18 months to buy it to keep my GAS under check. I'm glad I waited and I'm glad I went with a DX (so is my wife!!!). If I was a Pro, I would probably have both.

Looking for an all around lens somewhere around the.......... 18-150/200 range. Nikon is a stretch for me and I'm looking for an unbiased hogger or website that will give me some insight as to what I'm looking at. I think I'm going to stray from the course......... which is it sigma or tamron

My advice as a photo enthusiast is to pick a lens type (zoom and mm's) then go to your local camera store and try the two brands. I have done that twice now. I liked the Tamron 18-270 zoom over the sigma equivalent because it felt better and had a slightly higher zoom end at 279 vs. 250. For a 10-24 wide angle, I went with the Sigma. I am getting ready to do it again for the 150-600 super zooms. Tamron has had great reviews but we patiently await the Sigma C version.

I just upgraded from a D3100 to a D7100. It is like going from a VW bug to a mercedes. The controls are quite different than the D3100 but once you get to know them they are much much better and faster to use when taking photos. I have only had it for 18 hours and I already love it!! It will take many months to fully learn it if not more!
