When I was shooting my sons and daughters hockey, I would use a 70-200 f2.8 on a crop sensor and a 200mm f1.8 with a 1.4 extender on a full frame. Location is key, though. Both were on monopods

Was the lens you used meant to be used on a cropped sensor?

Agreed, our OP needs to identify the camera. Adding a 1.4x or 2x to their 70-200 on a cropped body would be sufficient from near the sidelines. The longer 200-500 might prove to be too long on a cropped body from directly on the sidelines.

Yes. We need to know if the camera is of the cropped variety or full frame. Especially with telephoto - even super-tele it makes the world of difference

BEAUTIFUL work. Can you recommend a good book?

The store right to Quechee Gorge on rte 4 has some good VT books. The store coming from the rte 89 exit.

Consider taking route 100 end to end. Pretty drive - north end brings you near Ben n Jerry's

All the suggestions are excellent ones.. I'm a VT expatriate.

Is that an issue? I keep my Kodak Portra in the fridge. Please clarify. Yes, it's the cassette not the cassette container.

You can probably do the compression of JPGs with Photoshop. I just don't know the program

actually my question was more in the line of how does UHH downsize/resample images you upload ? How do I maintain as much IQ considering that process ?

You may have answered that question in all that, but it would have gone over my head lol, sorry.

I was under the impression the dimension limit was 1400 px width.

I am not aware of a 1400 pixel limit. There may be a file size limit but I have already addressed that subject in this thread. Again, FastStone and other utilities can compress a JPG down to as much as one tenth the original file size without an appreciable reduction in quality. For practicality the image only needs to fill the average serious photographer's monitor screen unless the purpose of the upload is to draw attention to part of a larger image.

Do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT buy a Nikon d850 and drop it 5 inches and expect it to live. I have one and it is a delicate fine camera not to be tossed around or gotten wet.
I would recommend an Olympus Tough TG6 nearly indestructable and takes pictures underwear 12 mp zoom to 100 mm

the Fugi fineppix XP is also a good one to has 16 mp and is water proof and drop proof a d850 is neither

From OP quote: "underwear.."? Does anyone proofread their posts? Probably good advise though.

However, from personal experience, don't buy a Sony HX99 of you are going to dribble it off the pavement from 10". Mine lost. Great camera though.

Yes, I discovered that recently. There are good free backup programs, though, but I suspect they will all become subscription eventually. I think Macrium Reflect still has a free version. I'd buy a program as a last resort, but I won't buy a subscription.

Consider this: If you value your content, at least do a simple backup of the documents / images onto an external drive. No one can place a value on family / professional images.

you can always go out and buy a new computer but if your current computer has crashed and your docs / images are on the original "C" drive of the non-functional computer, you have lost priceless content. At least copy your docs and images onto a USB drive.

As I said in a previous post, I never got Macrium to work 'cause it hung up on "cannot assign a drive letter issue. I suspect it tried to assign a "C" drive letter which Windows will not allow. If anyone has a suggestion, i'm open

I wonder if the problem with governments and businesses being hacked is that they are using the free version of protection, rather than paying the $29.95.

As far as I can tell Acronis' free products are not "free." It's trial ware that are full featured. After the trial period the software changes into the proverbial pumpkin and you have to buy it.

My issue with Acronis that is that it has become bloatware. The last good copy of Drive Image was 2018 and you cannot get a downloaded copy of it anymore. It's a marketing ploy that I do not understand. I had Acronis on all my machines - no longer. I use duplication instead. Only drawback with duplication is you need to be able to remove the drive from your computer in order to do duplication.

For the desktop there is a drawer option that can be installed for easy removal of the OS drive for easy duplication . On laptops it's a little more work.

There are other software options such as Macrium & AOMEI Backupper and others. These two programs never finished the cloning operation with my machine because they wanted to assign a drive letter (I assume "C") and my computer wouldn't, so the cloning was stopped at a point where the target drive was useless.

Oh, there is a free software called Clonezilla that allows you to leave your source drive in place but the drawback is that it is sector by sector format and you need to have a drive at least as big as the source drive and the program will not expand to accomodate the newer larger drive - if that be the case. Clonezilla requires a learning curve but I found it surmountable.

Is the paid version also loaded with junk? I hate to pay for a program and then be pestered.

Acronis is morphing into cyberprotection. in their effort to do so, they have problems with taking over the computer in which it resides

The antivirus continues to be active and running even when it is turned off in the Acronis protection screen. I have disabled all of the parts that I can, yet there are some that I can not get to. If I could go back to previous versions for just the back-up/recovery functions I would in a heart beat.

I used to use the latest version on a Win10 desktop. The antivirus portion is a little intrusive, so when I bought a new XPS desktop I canceled my account. Now I copy my data drive with robocopy. I never made an OS image, reinstalling Windows is too easy.

Yes, Acronis has become bloatware. It used to be a good program to do a clone (or an image). The last version I upgraded to was so intrusive it caused my computer to stutter on movies and scrolling web pages were frustrating. I removed it and swapped over to the duplicator method and never looked back.

One disadvantage of duplication is that the destination drive needs to be at least the same size as the source drive. I usually get the *exact* model SSD and never had a problem. I'm using a SABRENT duplicator

Good luck and keep on cloning, Alan
