Hello,
I'm looking to buy a tough camera, something that I can take with me anywhere, doesn't matter if I drop it or it gets wet etc. I have a lumix at the moment and it's been great for several years, even after my wife cooked it by leaving it by leaving it on top of the wood stove. I'd quite happily purchase another one of these but they don't seem to have advanced at all since my last purchase and so I'm wanting good recommendations please. I read in reviews that Olympus are regarded highly however, they only have a 12 megapixel sensor, that seems rather low to me, any ideas welcome please.
Thanks.... Phil

I’m certain the Nikon D850 is the way to go. Tough and sturdy. Good luck!!

Just a thought Phil. I take my iPhone in a wallet case every where with me and it has been dropped many times. Camera has worked perfectly no matter what. I hear the iPhone 12 camera is excellent.
Check out this Ricoh
https://www.photographyblog.com/reviews/ricoh_wg_70_review. I have a couple of Ricoh cameras and have been pleased with the brand and engineering. I used an Olympus Tough Camera on a job, didn't care for it, but that was a few years ago, new ones may be better. Bought a Nikon AW for one of my grown kids, did a good job for him. Lots of interesting stuff available. Don't own a cell phone, or like them much, so can't comment there.
I carry my TG-6 (previously had a TG-4, passed to a friend) as a backup camera. I have a small hard case for it, but it can also fit in a large pocket. Perfect when it starts to pour, or when I want to go out to dinner and not carry a camera bag. Yes, it has its limits, but I like that it shoots RAW. I bought the Olympus LB-T01 (ridiculously overpriced), but just picked up a knockoff JJC cap for my friend's TG-4 (thanks to another 'Hog's post on a separate thread).

Do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT buy a Nikon d850 and drop it 5 inches and expect it to live. I have one and it is a delicate fine camera not to be tossed around or gotten wet.
I would recommend an Olympus Tough TG6 nearly indestructable and takes pictures underwear 12 mp zoom to 100 mm
the Fugi fineppix XP is also a good one to has 16 mp and is water proof and drop proof a d850 is neither

”Good luck!” you say ?
Now THAT is entertainment ! ROTFLMAO
I have a TG-5. My wife gave it to me for those days that she thought I was too stressed out about using my 'real' gear. It is a great and fun camera to use.

NO camera is designed to work if you drop it Repeatedly on hard surfaces. And yes, the only camera I have seen on the market that fits your bill is the Olympus TG-6. And even this one may not hold up to your torture tests. Do you plan on giving this camera to a 2 year old?

I agree with this. I had a 4 and it grew legs so now have a 5. It's a great little camera. I put the silicone cover on it for extra bounce! The lens cap is the only weakness and this appears to fix the problem. I'll be ordering one today!
My Canon 7DMkII fell off my tripod that I was carrying over my soulder , and hit a concrete sidewalk. It was my bad I didn't have the Arca Swiss mount tightened down. The lens ended up in 3 pieces but the camera surrivied with just a scuff make on the bottom. Will it survive a second fall like that? I don't want to find out. I was lucky
I have used a TG-5 for a few years and love the camera. Mostly snorkeling and SCUBA diving and no problems and excellent pictures.
