Having no experience with slides I'll only say that the results turned out well to my eye. When younger, I too would have prefered an E-type with tent over a truck with fifth wheel. One of the finest cars made in my opinion but it helps to enjoy tinkering and tune-ups.

Your sensor is rectangular - THAT'S what matters

Thank you.

One responder pointed out that the round shape when used off camera as a studio light for example would be more compatible with light modifiers which I think is a valid observation. There are just so many ways to spend our money.

I am curious, what are the advantages/disadvantages of round flash heads (like the Godox V1) over the traditional type?

I use the traditional type with a bracket (Vello CB-100) that keeps the head in the same orientation as the camera sensor.

The marketing says it's a more "natural" pattern but I have yet to see a round sensor. My conclusion is it's a marketing gimmik. Base your decision on other more useful features (build quality, compatibility with your camera's TTL system, is it remote capable either by radio or optical pulse etc.).

I am working with a historical society to convert some 3000 speed graphic negatives into ditigal format for records and preservation. The negatives were “stored” in metal boxes, in paper envelopes,in an unheated second floor of a local library. Using care in handling most of negatives are producing very good images so here is my question, cost is a factor as this is a non profit, but what would be the best way to preserve these negatives going forward ? Paper sleeves, in plastic bags, just paper, vacuum sealed plastic, paper envelopes in a tupper ware type container ? The newest set is 56 years with the oldest appx 75 years old.

I would suggest contacting the Smithsonian Film Preservation Folks; contact information is available at the following link. I'm confident that they can point you in the right direction.

Very nice. #1 & #3 in particular illustrate the light houses well and why they are there.

I just found out that the Chiefs playoff game tonight will only be available via streaming Peacock. I gotta say that this really makes me mad, as I don't have Peacock and don't even have a way to stream it on my big screen tv even if I did sign up for it. Frankly, I see this as a move toward having to pay to watch all sports and hope they have a very poor response and that others are upset about this as well. It was bad enough that the Thursday night games were restricted, but everyone should get to see the playoff games and they make plenty of money putting them on network TV. Is this really the future of sports on TV?

I agree with you. Between that (PPV) and the involvement with Gambling it's clear that Goodell has turned up the make more money dial for the NFL. The PPV move is a clear supply / demand play that I also hope he loses but the inclusion of gambling in a sporting event will lead to corruption of the sport to enrichen a few at the expense of the rest of us. There was a time that these activites were the target of vice squads. It's now clear that our Government officials targeted organized crime in order to take the business over for themselves.

Post your favorite images of 2023. They needn't be wall hangers or contest winners (post these too!), to be one of your favorites - maybe because of the story, the people, the place, or something you tried. Tell us why they are among your favorites of last year. I'm looking forward to seeing your favorites and reading your stories.

To those who may be interrested here's another article discussing the difference between film and digital with respect to dynamic range and resolution. It apears that there are unique creative oportunities available with film but for most of us digital is far more suitable. I hope you enjoy the article.

Is it worth shooting Film if all your going to do is scan and digitalize your negatives, or is it self defeating.

In terms of resolution the answer seems to be no on an apples to apples comparison but the comparison can be more subtle. Personally I find digital to be far better; the results are immediate, the investment far lower (no darkroom) and the quality at least as good. There are other points of view on this though and I offer the following article on the subject for those interrested in the question:

I have a new Zfc with a 24-200 full frame zoom. I have been keeping the polarizing filter on, however I wonder if there are times when it is better to not utilizie the polarizer. Pardon if this is a basic question; I am a serious amateur and still learning about mirrorless. My main topics are dinner parties, sunsets, and landscapes. Thanks.

Just my opinion -
They can be useful for eliminating reflections like photographing objects in a display case, in shop windows or from standing water.
They can enhance contrast in the sky or reduce haze and reflection in landscape photographs although they can cause banding in the sky esp. with wide angle lenses (read up on this).

Personally I'd use a clear filter for protection and have a CPL available for the above situations.
