The BEST advice I can give you is to stop wasting your money on cheap junk as you, most often, get what you pay for. I strongly suggest you buy the Canon flash unit designed for/matched to your camera. You can buy a better Canon unit if you wish if you are planning on sticking with photography and possibly upgrading in the future. Sorry I can't quote models as I am a Nikon guy. Best of luck and Happy Holidays.

P.S. If you're anywhere near Roberts in Indy, start there. If not call B&H for a recommendation. If you have a trustworthy local camera store, go there and support them.

I have Bryan Peterson's "Understanding Exposure" and "Understanding Flash Photography". I especially like Understanding Flash Photography because it covers a lot of different situations where flash can be used. A lot of other books on flash photography focus on wedding photography. Bryan Peterson's book focuses on every day situations where flash can be used.

PhotoScape X Pro - Intuitive and easy to use. A really good standalone program. (85%), Adobe LightRoom 6 Verison 6.14 Standalone (5%), and Picasa 3 (2% to import and organize). For all of the rest (8%) for "special projects" I use Andrea Moasic, Raw Therapee 5.3, Regi Stax 6, Noiseware Community Edition, and Canon Digital Pro 4.

Also a fan of PhotoScape X Pro...totally free , although I like it so much that I will upgrade for $30..great program which I discovered through Tony Northrup
