I've been around scenes like this for most of my life. However, these two trawlers dwarf anything of this nature I've ever seen. The magnitude of the booms and machinery necessary to drag massive nets is remarkable.

Nice photo, what's the other flag?

Did you ever fly into Hahn AFB Germany or Takhli Thailand? I might have flown with you if so.

I managed to score a Canon 100 - 400mm zoom off Craig's list. I have a couple uses in mind where weight isn't an issue. But for just carrying it around hunting for birds or something... My arms got tired just testing it out in my backyard, and I'm not too thrilled about the prospect of the lens hanging from the body mount while carrying the camera with a camera body mounted neck strap.

I'm looking for alternate ideas to carry this thing. What are any of you folks using for heavy lenses?

After all these decades, you're still easy on the eyes.
How could this not be taken as a compliment?

Sometimes, all it takes is neglect and gravity to cause a bridge to fail. The headline below is from today's Boston Globe, and it's the same throughout the country.

"More than 400 Massachusetts bridges are considered at the β€˜end of their useful life'.
The bridges, including the largest in New England, are considered to be in such poor condition that they either need to be replaced or need major work, according to state and federal data."

"Maintenance? Oh, it's good enough for now. Let the next governor (or whoever) take care of it."

They are more interested in building new highways and bridges. Maintenance is mostly lacking.

I am going to try to take a solor eclipse picture April 8th. Since I have never tried to take a picture of the sun I needed to pratice. Got a pretty good photo using the topics already that have been posted. The problem I am having will seem so dumb but I hope someone will be able to help this old man. I am having a diffucult time finding the sun in the view finder. With the dark sun filter until the sun is actually visible it of course is black. I can find it but it takes me a long time very slowly moving the camer back and forth and up and down to locate it. I am hoping someone has a good starting point that will help me find it faster. I guess my 80 year old eyes are just really poor. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

If it is on a tripod or mount, just watch the shadow it casts on the ground, then move the camera/lens until the shadow is the smallest. I use this technique for my telescopes also.

After the stop at Jackass Joe's.... the sky above the Books became became black, drops of rain occasionally fell and that turned to graupel, and the backroad route beckoned. For my springtime weather preferences, it was nothing less than ideal. Though the skeletonized cow I found might've disagreed.

That last pano of the Bookcliffs is outstanding.
