Sorry you are correct SmallRig (my vision is getting bad!) I also was told it was out of stock but I ordered it and it arrived in only 2 weeks.

That’s probably the only other one I would consider. Are you happy with it? The fit and access to everything?

I have a SUNWAYFOTO PSLO-a7RIV Dedicated L Plate for Sony A7R Mark IV Camera Arca/RRS Compatible ordered from Amazon was in stock and half the price of the RRS. It is an aluminum L bracket and does what it is supposed to do.

I looked at that one; but it doesn’t cover the entire bottom, stopping just before the battery door. That’s also why I wasn’t a fan of the Rogeti. Thanks!

Check B&H for a SmartRig model. It is a fraction of the price and has a great grip extension that makes the Sony's fit your hand better. I think mine was $59.

I saw the SmallRig, but not the SmartRig. It’s currently unavailable at B&H. Thanks for the advice.

You are welcome. Perhaps B&H will also carry it when RRS gets them ready for distribution. Those may be my two favorite stores.

I placed my order at RRS.

The RRS website says the BA1 is available for preorder. That may or may not be what you had on backorder.

Quoted from site:
“The Really Right Stuff BA1 camera body plates are custom designed for the most secure fit as possible on the Sony Alpha-1, A7RIV, A9II, and A7SIII.”

That is not the one I had ordered (I removed this item from my order); but I think it will fit the bill. I checked B&H and it doesn't appear that the "L" part is an option like it is on the RRS site. Too bad, because I get a 6% discount at B&H with my "PayBoo" card.

Thank you for this information. I had missed it that this bracket will fit my camera.

I had a RRS L-plate on order from B&H for 2 months and it is still on BO. I checked Adorama...same thing. So I went directly to RRS and they no longer have it listed, so I'm guessing that it has been discontinued. Therefore, I am looking for alternatives and came across these three: Rogeti, Stabil, and SmallRig. Recommendations?

HSYNCHRONIZED FIRING: the SYNC CORD and BUILT-IN SLAVE EYE
Hardwired Sync: Each unit arrives with a 15-foot sync cord for hardwired, synchronized
firing. The cord’s 1/8-inch miniplug connects to the flash unit on the back control
panel, then connects to your camera via PC-sync connection. With the sync cord
connected and the flash unit powered on, pressing your camera’s shutter will simultaneously fire the flash unit.
NOTE: If your camera does not have an input for this PC-connection, we offer a hot
shoe adapter (sold separately; please see our website at www.paulcbuff.com/hotshoeadapters.php to learn more).
Built-In Slave Cell: Each unit has a built-in slave tripper for wireless firing when used as
part of a multi-light setup. With a multi-light setup, you will only need to connect one
flash unit in the setup to your camera using the sync cord. With one unit connected,
the other units will fire at the same time via their slave trippers. The tripper on each
unit is activated by the slave cell, located on the back control panel, firing the unit
whenever it “sees” the light from another flash as far as 50+ feet away. This slave
cell is disengaged whenever a sync cord or “dummy plug” (used with some remote
controls) is inserted in the sync jack.
NOTE: The slave cell is designed to sense flashes of light (both visible and infrared);
any flash that it “sees” can trigger it, including the flash from another unit in your
setup, a conventional on-camera, built-in, or pop-up flash (and its pre-flash), and/or
an infrared remote transmitter. Although this gives you more options for triggering,
the presence of extraneous triggers must be considered when you are not the only
photographer in the area. Other flashes (whether on professional or even disposable
cameras), and infrared remotes can inadvertently trigger your flash unit(s).
We additionally offer various remote control options that provide synchronization
between your camera and your flash unit(s), allowing your flash unit(s) to be remotely
triggered. We additionally offer remote control options that provide complete control
over all parameters of the light. To learn more about the remote control options that
we offer for use with the AlienBees units (systems and components sold separately
from flash units), please visit our website.

Thank you for this. I have an Einstein and an Alien Bee 800. I don’t think it is a problem with the lights, although attaching a sync code to one light SHOULD have triggered BOTH lights, but didn’t. I tried the sync cord to each light with the same results. The one connected fired and the other didn’t. The camera was very close to the lights, closer than it would’ve been in an actual setup.

Alternatively, I can put the small Buff transmitter on the hot shoe of the a7iii and everything works perfectly. I’ve compared the settings of the two cameras and can’t find a discrepancy. The Sony rep I called wasn’t helpful. That’s why I think this newer camera isn’t compatible so I was looking for a workaround. I guess I can never sell the older camera!!!!

Last week I ordered a Carbon Fiber monopod from Amazon. (Actually, my wife orders for me since she always finds a way to get discounts that I can't & she usually is setting on some item she wants but does not cost enough to get free shipping.) Good news. The order arrived today. Bad news. I received a 40 inch oscillating house fan instead of a monopod. We have contacted Amazon & someone named Ron in some other part of the world is trying to figure out what happened. The package has the correct info on it & everything else is correct, routing, tracking, etc. My bet is that some scanner somewhere read a bar code wrong. Anyway, my GAS has been surppressed & I await further developments. Hope I get my monopod soon.

Usually Amazon is right on; but once my sister-in-law sent my husband a neck pillow and I called and thanked her for the travel cup he received. Huh? I checked the package and it had TWO labels on it. One addressed to us and one addressed to someone in New York. I’m guessing someone in New York has a very nice neck pillow!

Also, sometimes the codes they scan are wrong.

No. I ran the tests with the same results. The flash on the a7Rm4 did not trigger the lights. ONE light could be triggered with a sync cord but not both. I couldn’t see a switch to turn on a photocell and I sent the Cyber Commander in for repair

Let us know how you make out.

A Sony on-camera Speedlight would make no difference as far as photoelectric cells are concerned- they should respond to any flash if they are working. Check to see if your Buff lights have a switch to turn the photocells on and off.

So, I ran another test with the same results. A flash on the a7RM4 does not trigger the Buff lights. I CAN trigger ONE light with a sync cord; but not both. I didn’t see a switch to turn the photocell on or off. I have sent the Cyber Commander in for repair. I’ll keep you posted. Thanks.
By the way, Buff has excellent customer service. If there is an issue with that trigger you should contact them. Here's the link:

I searched for Pro Photo in the App Store and got the ProPhoto magazine. What app are you using to shoot RAW?

I prefer the DLSR, as well, but sometimes I just don't feel like taking it out. Especially at night, I find that I get better night photos and video with the iPhone 12 Pro than with the Nikon D7200. And the file sizes aren't nearly as large.

Interesting. I tried night photos at Disney with my old phone and they were terrible, so I’m curious to see how this phone does. I can’t see it replacing my REAL camera.
