Last week I ordered a Carbon Fiber monopod from Amazon. (Actually, my wife orders for me since she always finds a way to get discounts that I can't & she usually is setting on some item she wants but does not cost enough to get free shipping.) Good news. The order arrived today. Bad news. I received a 40 inch oscillating house fan instead of a monopod. We have contacted Amazon & someone named Ron in some other part of the world is trying to figure out what happened. The package has the correct info on it & everything else is correct, routing, tracking, etc. My bet is that some scanner somewhere read a bar code wrong. Anyway, my GAS has been surppressed & I await further developments. Hope I get my monopod soon.

You can get some amazing shots using an oscillating fan for a tripod. Just ask the pros..

If you are somewhere as hot as it is here, you can use the fan or sell it at a profit!

Amazon is awesome on returns. You can have your money back in a few hours and reorder. Not worth trying to figure out what went wrong.

Sometimes they let you keep the item…for low cost items.

Amazing panorama shots--that's for sure.

If the fan is running (especially on high) I'd suggest using a high shutter speed or your images may be a *tad* blurry. Then again, if you're going for that artistic look, slow that shutter speed waaay down. I'd be kinda interested on seeing how you'd attach the camera though.
Seriously, sorry about your issue and I hope it solved quickly. In the meantime you can always turn the fan on and relive being a kid by talking into the fan to get that robot voice. (Admit it, you haven't done that in years)

Usually Amazon is right on; but once my sister-in-law sent my husband a neck pillow and I called and thanked her for the travel cup he received. Huh? I checked the package and it had TWO labels on it. One addressed to us and one addressed to someone in New York. I’m guessing someone in New York has a very nice neck pillow!

Also, sometimes the codes they scan are wrong.

Some of your suggestions are right on. A little duct tape, a remote trigger, & a REALLY long extension chord. (I like to shoot wildlife) What could go wrong?

That would be shocking and upsetting. I have been purchasing from Amazon since their online book sales (only), and likely well over a thousand purchases I know I never got one that wrong! Occasionally wrong color, wrong size or model, version or edition of book or CD. Usually the problems are with delivery via USPS or UPS or Amazon.

You should have no problem resolving yours issue. Amazon and eBay have always fixed any problems I have had. Not too long ago I ordered a music CD from a third party on Amazon. It seemed to be late and lost or misplaced by the USPS so I called Amazon to ask them to run a trace on the tracking. Instead they gave me a refund. The CD showed up the next day. So I accidentally and essentially got it for free. And the poor seller probably got reamed. And the problem was not even the fault of the seller but the shipping service. Often the mail here gets put in the wrong locked mail box. We have a group street block cluster box. We are box #3 even though our address is 1440, corner house next to us to the West is #1 & 1420 and across the street from them is #2 & 1435. Mail gets into wrong mail boxes rather often. Luckily at this home and our previous neighborhood people are honest about the mail.

I hope B & H gets it right for me this time because I bought a used lens Thursday and am waiting for them to mail it. My guess Tuesday since I got no notification of it going out Friday before sunset.

Something similar happened to me. I received an order of small plumbing parts from Amazon that I didn't order. The address, the name, everything was right. It took me awhile to get through to Amazon (the representative seemed to be in India). I was trying to arrange to send the stuff back, because somebody out there had ordered these parts and was waiting for them. Amazon thanked me for the correction, but told me to keep the supplies or throw them away. That was cheaper than sending it back.

Good news, then, is that you now own a new fan.
