I would like to know if anyone has upgraded from the 1DX to the new Canon 1DX Mark and if you think it is worth the cost.
It seem we are doomed to this new way for CC companies to try to get us to use their product obviously hoping we will continue to use the cards after the credit is gone. Trying to get something for the odd amount left is fun too, I also found the limitations of where a card would be accepted a nuisance and threw it away when it ran low.
I took the Olympus G4 to Costa Rica last month and am real happy with the results and camera operation. I couldn't see taking my big guy with an underwater casing and am happy that I didn't. Don't forget the extra memory.
Good idea Jack. I will take some $1s for that. It worked in other countries too.

Thanks for that confirmation of my decision to carry the 100-400II. I will also be on a sailing cruiser so the sea shots when under way will be good. Thought about selling the 17-40 for a 16-35 newer lens but am not sure it's worth it.
Thanks again
Howard
I use a sling bag so that I don't have to set things down when working the camera or lens.
Thanks everyone for your input. I now have a better vision of what to do. I will watch Scott Kelby's video. I have met him a couple of times now and his dynamic persona is catching.
I have a Canon 1Dx and Canon 5D3. Thanks for reminding me to add that.
I will be join an exchange trip to Cuba over the Christmas and New Years and am interested in anyone's camera experience there. We will be in Havana for a few days and then sail to other ports. My situation is that I plan on taking my 100-400, 35-105, and 17-40 lenses. Would anyone that has been there suggest any other lens? How about something less than the 17-40 for wide angle shots?
Thanks
It is not a long drive to Yellowstone either. I also got some great bear and moose shots down by the lodges outside of the park.
I have used a company called Images in Africa Safaris twice now and have had great experiences both times. Look at his web site. I have been to South Afrlica and Kenya with him. He also helps guide to the best spots and helps with camera and photography lessons to those needing it while in the field.
Good shooting on your trip!!
I have taken two trips to Africa and it is my opinion that you should rent the best lens you can get for long shots. I also found many shots were close in so you need something for wide and close in shots. Two cameras would be ideal with the different lens as you never can tell when which will be needed quickly.
I stopped at a Walmart while one a trip and got a cheap one that has held up through years of abuse and use as a walking stick as well as a monopod. It also came with a wedge head in addition to the screw and works well to hold a longer lens.
No doubt about it wear the boots!!!
I live on the northern CA coast and visit ours and the Oregon coasts all the time.
There are a lot of sandy beaches scattered about so you may think of buying flip flops if that is your style for them but remember the water is cold cold cold and often there is fog that chills the air as well. This years weather has been crazy unpredictable.
I have done a small boat cruise out of Juneau instead of the big boat cruise and found it to be fantastic. You cruise in and out of places the big boats can't go and get shots of amazing wildlife plus scenery that is beyond viewing from the big boats. I bit pricier but worth it. There are also tours to gardens, bog areas and the old tombstone cemetery in Skagway. For sure take the train ride at White Pass. Dress in layers as it goes cold to warm to cold quickly.
