Go Pro!! I used it underwater at the great barrier reef. Takes great photos too and it can be set to wide angle...very nice little package.

I took the Olympus G4 to Costa Rica last month and am real happy with the results and camera operation. I couldn't see taking my big guy with an underwater casing and am happy that I didn't. Don't forget the extra memory.

If you already have a camera, cut out an opening in a zip lock bag, place the camera inside and screw a protective filter on the lens trapping some of the bag around the opening.

Use the $500 to upgrade your accommodation on the cruise.

One would hope that you wouldn't need a waterproof camera for a cruise...a camera would be the least of your problems, because your boat is SINKING!

Now...is this for the beach, snorkeling, or just insurance against being caught out in inclement weather?

Are you planning to scuba-dive or snorkel with surface dives, taking the camera down 3' - 20'?

Check into an Olympus TG-860. Waterproof, shockproof, and damn good color considering.

I work in a prison where they are used any time an inmate is handcuffed and escorted somewhere so they don't get the best of care.

My wife has a Nikon AW110 but the Olympus has better color rendition.

The Ricoh WG series cameras are nice and affordable..
I bought the Ricoh WG-20 couple years ago to take on a vacation where we did a lot of snorkeling.. the camera worked flawlessly Its a rugged little camera and can go to depths of 10 meters(33 feet)I was able to get some awesome shots of the coral reef and several sea turtles.. Worth looking into..

I live on the beach and have had them all - and actually have not had one I didn't like. My favorite is the Canon D series - I have the D10 and the D30, they just seem to be more rugged for the water parks, and take GORGEOUS pictures. The old D10 has a sunset mode that takes better sunsets than my DSLR. I still only take my old D10 to the beach in the evenings. If you keep an eye out, you can get used D10 on ebay for about $90.
I also had the Nikon AW110 - they are much cheaper - it took great pictures and it never took on water. But I sold it after a year to buy the Oly TG860.
I just bought the Olympus TG860 because I wanted the selfie flip out screen. Seems awesome - but I have not had it to the beach or water park yet. If your going snorkeling on your trip - I would recommend this camera. You will want selfies of you and your friends underwater!!
Oly just came out with the TG-870 -- I can't seem to find a difference in the two cameras besides the price - I would recommend just going with the 860.
The Oly Tg-4 is more expensive because it can get colder, go deeper, etc.. So check out those specs to see if you need one that goes that deep/cold. (the TG-4 does not have a selfie screen)
The only one I had that broke (took on water) was the Sony DSC-TX30. But I had it for a year first and it took GORGEOUS pictures. I felt like I got my money's worth! But those just don't seem "as tough" as some of the others.
So I hope that helps !! Have fun on your trip!!

I researched this due to a planned trip to the Keys this summer. I just ordered a refurbished Canon S120 for $250 directly from Canon and the Canon underwater housing for it for $250 from Amazon. The camera has a 1 year warranty. Look on Google and Youtube, put in "S120 underwater". IMO the videos look a lot better than the Olympus Tough or the GoPro. It looks like the camera + housing ends up being roughly the size of a small DSLR. I can't wait to try it out since this will be the 1st time I've ever snorkled!
