Is an AWD/4WD vehicle essential or recommended to get to some of the remote areas?

I would take 24-105mm and the 100-400mm lenses. I don't see using a prime 85mm. And I would take extra batteries and something to protect your gear from moisture if your camera is not sealed. And don't carry your camera strap on your shoulder only. Accidents do happen. Have a good trip.

Yes, moisture protection - good call. The 85 stay home for sure - options are the 70-200 or the 100-400 (probably the latter). The 24-105 is more versatile in the range but the 24-70 is much sharper .....

Hello Hoggers;

Will be in Alaska from May 11 to 23, 2016 and looking for suggestions on places to visit and what not to miss considering the short time we have.

Appreciate all the help in planning the trip and recommendations for what lenses to carry. I am thinking of taking the 24-70 2.8ii on the 5D3 and the 100-400 ii on the 7D2. I also have the 24-105, 70-200 2.8ii and the 85 1.2 at my disposal but only want to lug what's essential. Would I need the 11-24 or the 16-35 4.0 to capture the landscape?

Thanks

Should digital slr cameras benefit from having an annual service

For most of us hobbyists I'd say not - I'd think it would more be a factor of the number of actuations and the environment in which the equipment is exposed to.

I am So pissed at Canon right now they canceled my new camera order "because it's being shipped to a different address than billing, Of course I want to get it at work instead of having it sit on my front porch until 7pm ,not in my neighborhood. Called customer DISservice today and he said he'd fix it his fix was to resubmit the order and than bill my CC again , of course with the hold already on the card for the original purchase it would be denied. So much for taking it Shooting Eagles on Thursday doubt it will be here by the time I can call the bank drop the hold than get ahold of Canon especially since I can't really get time for phone conversations until after work Monday. than to top it off and rub salt in the wound he says "I'll hold this order open for ya the hold should be off in 3 to 4 days" So mad I'm looking at Nikons online right now

I've had a similar issue happen with Lenovo also on a laptop purchase - they (Canon) just want to make sure there's no fraud going on here. This is not an unsual way of handling it.

Went to the Ringling Bros. & Barnum Circus last night with our two Grandsons at the Prudential Center, Newark. Fabulous show!! Rather than give them X-Mas gifts we opted for taking them to the Circus. It was an excellent choice. We all had a wonderful time.

I took my 7D M II and Canon Ef 70 -200 f/2.8 II lens. I had gained a great deal of experience shooting action sports at their baseball, soccer, basketball games and our Granddaughter's volleyball. Practice may not always produce, "perfect", but it sure helps.

As usual, shot on manual, at 1/400 or faster, auto ISO and varied aperture & shutter depending on the venue, lighting and speed of the action. I use al servo and one of the 6 available AF configuration settings. With burst speed of 10 fps, the 7D M II is a powerful tool and coupled with the fabulous 70 - 200 II it's a winning combination.

At the circus, the available light constantly changes due to the variety of spotlights shinning on the featured subjects. I frequently adjusted my aperture from f/2.8 through f/5.6. As the evening progressed, I quickly learned which opening was the right one for the available light.

I began shooting actions sports in 2012 after moving back to NJ from NC. Motivated by missing family, the need for convenient medical services and especially desiring to experience the activity and development of the grand kids.

I probably took 2 - 3 thousand shots. I was very pleased with the results when previewing them in the camera. Now comes the task of sorting and selecting a reasonable sampling. That will take some time, but I anxiously look forward to seeing the results on the monitor.

I know many Uhhers use Lightroom. I've used it a few times, but I still seem to prefer my method of opening each image in Windows Photo Viewer, right clicking the ones I want to select as keepers, adjusting in Photoshop CC, and save to an appropriate folder on my photo drive. It's time consuming, but I am not yet comfortable with Develop in Lightroom.

I have posted a few to share with UHHers. I'll create an album and post on one of my Shutterfly sites toshare with family, ... I feel I'm learning and feel satisfied with my progress!! It's fun!!

I've posted additional images at http://imagesbymarkweiss.shutterfly.com/pictures/1123. I'd be honored it you would view them. Comments are welcomed. Best viewed by activating "slide show" - top left.

I am a little late to the realization that Google will stop supporting Picasa on March the 16th. They offer a solution with their other photo system. Is it an easy task to switch. Does the 'new' program have the same (or better?) features than Picasa? Do my collection of photos automatically move to the new photo saving system?
I will start the process later this evening but wanted to reach out first to try to understand what I may be up against.
Thank you

If you were sharing/using picasaweb, automatically your collection should already be in google photos.

Hi all, I have a Canon EOS 7D that needs repair and I don't want to rely on my Canon EOS 30D. I'm trying to determine what new Canon Body I want to buy. I want the next one to be my first pro body. The 7D seems to have a major problem with noise in low light even when I don't bump the ISO up very high (1/400 - 1/600 sec). The next camera needs to be great in low light (low noise, inside arena) and have a high number of frames per second. I am thinking hard about the EOS 5D Mark III and entertaining the idea of the EOS-1Dx Mark II but I'm open to other models. What do you think is the best Canon camera for low light situations with high FPS? :?:

The 6D is a FF but the frame rate is not that great but probably sufficient for most purposes as long as you're not shooting very fast action - has excellent ISO capability.

The 7D2 is very similar to your 7D with an excellent FPS and is much better in terms of low noise - great body for action.

The 5D3 is your best bet at this time, best of both worlds good FPS, low noise, FF and a really nice camera for most anything you'd want.

I too went from the 7D to the 7D2 and welcomed the upgrade. I have the 5D3 also and is my go to body unless I am looking for more reach.

The 5D III is older technology and will soon be replaced. The up side of that is, you can get a new one for a reasonable price. Since you currently have 2 EOS bodies, I'll assume you have a few lenses and probably not interested in other than EOS. Don't know what lenses you have but since both your bodies are crop sensor, if you have acquired EF-S lenses, they won't mount to a full frame body.

If you're considering the 1DX II then obviously money isn't a factor. The body that probably fits what you're looking for, high frames per second, shooting indoors, arena lighting, other than the flagship 1DX II is the 7D II. Not full frame but then not all pro's shoot strictly full frame.

If you can afford the 1DX II and EF-S lenses aren't an issue, that's what I'd get otherwise check out the 7D II.

If money and brand not an issue, Nixon just came out with 2 new feature packed bodies, a crop and a full frame that are both excellent cameras.

If you want mind boggling detail and can live with 5 frames per second, the 5DS & 5DSr are very capable cameras but they're not really something you'd shoot sports and action with.

Hi All, I am a newbie here and just want a nice point and shoot Camera for doing e-bay. We have low lighting so something with a flash and at least 20-21 megapixels with a zoom lens. For my budget right now I am looking at a Canon Powershot SX410 IS Digital Camera. I'm wondering if the picture quality will be good enough. Maybe I should consider a different Camera? Any help would be appreciated. Thank You!

Have you invested in the Cotton Carrier Steady Shot? Any feedback on it? I have a cotton carrier and think its great.

The largest lenses (in size) I have are the 100-400 and the 70-200 so don't have a need for the steady shot and furthermore, the steady shot is quite pricey.
