Does anyone know if there is an Adapter that retains AF, using Nikon lenses on a SonyA7iii body?

I was working for JPS at the time. Spent over 26 years taking Press & Public Relations Photographs for the Nottingham company. (Got a cigarette 'Allowance' but never smoked in that 26 years) Think I deserved a few 'Days Out', away from the factory environment.

I never really 'Left' film Photography. Was brought-up on it since 1940's. Got my 'Distinctions (Letters) using film. Granted, at the time, there was no alternative, (Glass plates were being phased-out, 5 x 4 sheet film was taking-over).I learned the art of film and chemical processing. Why waste all of that knowledge? Right up to this month, you, (Author), were making derogatory remarks about film users. How the leopard has changed his spots. Enjoy eating a large slice of 'Humble-Pie'. Choke on it if you must!!

In the film days, I regularly reversed my 43-86 zoom for beautiful macro close-ups. Without an adapter, I would just hold the lens against the lens-mount. I did it so often, that I bought an f-mount-to-52mm-filter-thread adapter for cheap and it worked great!

I am surprised that you got good results with that lens. In normal use, I found it had Pin-cushion distortion at one end of the zoom range, and Barrel distortion at the other end. I classed it as one of Nikons worst lenses.

Any suggestions for using a camera for copying slides?

Yes...Attach the camera to a Bowens Ilumitran, use a good quality enlarger lens, and fire away. Been doing it for years.

If your photos are not good enough, stop shooting film.

Sounds like someone who NEVER shot film for a living.

I spend some time looking at portraits on a FB page dedicated to using "vintage" lenses on modern digitals. Many use full frame cameras, others M43. Some nice work from all over the world.

What is amusing to me is the veneration of some lenses that were, at best, considered "OK" in the 70's. I'm talking about Vivitars (not Series One), Russian Helios 58's, Chinon 50's, etc. Takumar 50 f.1.4s prices went through the roof. Of course, these lenses must be manually focused and the aperture stopped down manually. But many are just shot wide open to get the elusive bokeh.

Others are discovering using projector lenses and enlarging lenses.

I'm not knocking it, as I have fun with some TV lenses on my M43 camera and a couple of the "7 Artisans" lenses. And I do have an adapter for some screw mount lenses. But I'm not using them full-frame.

Your thoughts?

I have adapters to fit my 30's;40's; 50's Leica (39mm screw) lenses to my Sony a 7111 body, manual focus and manual stop-down of course. But interesting results.

I used to enjoy taking Church/ Cathedral interiors on a 5x4 camera. 15/25min exposures, (to lose people walking about in my shots) Not the same with digital, there is no Reciprocity Failure with digital, just with film. Covid -19 'Lock-down' will prevent me from this enjoyment today. (And tomorrow).

I've got film in my deep-freeze. I will use it whenever the mood / situation arises. I have plenty of (Dry) chemistry for the processing. Film was the norm' when I took an interest in Photography (1947).
