I think you would do better with this USM model. WHile it is reconditioned, it is a much better model and rated in excellent condition.:

I always recommend a 50mm micro lens to mmy students. It can be used for any type of photography. Also, If you know photoshop, I have used this lens to capture gigantic images. I photograph a scene in 12 frames and then I stich them together in photoshop. There is nothing so big that I cannot photograph with a 50mm. The other benefit of this lens is that, this lens can give you a 1:1 ratio and if you use extension tubes, you can increase the ratio.
Friend, keep in mind that no lens or camera can rake pictures, it is always the person behind.
