Very few flashes of any brand ever made have dangerously high trigger voltages. The highest voltage I could find for Canon, the Canolite D, is only 185 volts. Nikons can handle up to 250 volts, I should think that Canons would be as well built. The trigger voltage of your 199A is a mere 6 volts, enjoy it!
The trigger voltage for most older flashes is listed here:

Here's another link that shows how to test the voltage yourself. I don't connect my old flash units directly to my cameras. I use wireless triggers, but still want to know the voltage.

Just before Labor Day I purchased some Datacolor calibration tools from B & H. Since it was a holiday weekend they would ship them on Tuesday with a Friday delivery. To my surprise, FedEx dropped them off in Nevada on Wednesday.

I’ve scanned, processed in Photoshop and printed dozens of old black and white photos with my two Epson R280 printers and haven’t had to deal with a color cast. These printers are the smaller version of the Epson 1400 and use the same Claria dye based inks. I wonder if the color cast is a bi-product of converting from color. Guess I’ll have to test that possibility. I should also note that I use a calibrated monitor, let Photoshop manage the colors, use Epson matte paper and judge the prints at a viewing station that has 5000k lighting.

Here’s what the OP needs, if you could locate one. In my early darkroom days, I dealt with a water and room temperature problem, so I purchased one of these for around a hundred dollars. It had a small pump to circulate the water, a thermostat and heating element to control the temperature. When things got to warm for black and white processing I would place Blue Ice packets in the bath and let the unit monitor and adjust the temperature.

When I print on card stock or watercolor paper, I will first brush the paper with my wet n dry vacuum.

Just checked for an expiration date on my Canon CLI42 cartridges and found none. With that said, I’ve purchased lots of genuine Canon and Epson inks that are new and expired without a problem. I just make sure they’re sealed in their original vacuum bag.

Even if the seller doesn’t accept returns, Ebay will help with any problems you might have. Those that sell a lot, don’t want a bad review.

My Epson ET-4550 doesn't look anything like the ones in your report. Plus the date on your report is 2014 and I purchased my printer in 2017.

Doesn't look like yours, but likely uses the same cheap ink.

I think those of you promoting the Epson Ecotank printers should have a look at this report. These are the same printers sold over here with a different model number.

Hopefully by October they will have the wildfires in California under control. Friends are telling me how bad the smoke has been in southern Utah and northern Arizona. I’ve been doing outdoor work in northern Nevada and the smoke from the California and Nevada fires, plus the extra hot weather have forced us to put somethings on hold.

For those of you thinking about buying a monitor calibration tool. I've had mine for several years, it does a great job.

Went out and looked at your photos from a year ago and I don't see the sharpness problem that worries you.
